This is my first book, I would appreciate any constructive criticism, comments and all. Anyway I hope someone reads this, enjoy!
Chapter 1
I set the last box down in my room, which had a beautiful view of the beach through the windows. My dad walked in and sat down on the floor and let out a huff. "Oh, Dani, this place is awesome, I'm sure you will love it here."
"I'm sure." I said this sarcastically, as I wasn't too happy about moving to the beach. Don't get me wrong, I love the beach, just like anyone else. I just wasn't too thrilled about the crowd that tended to live around them.
"Danielle, I know you're tired of the moving and all, but can you please try? This might be the place!" My dad always says this, every time we move.
"The beach will be nice for jogging" I gave him a half-hearted smile. I did really want to try for my dad, he worked to put a roof over our heads. Or many if you think about it. My dad hasn't been the same since my mom left, he was crazy about her. I barely remember her, but he tells me I look exactly like her. "Chinese for dinner?" I just realized how hungry I was, and all of our dishes and utensils were packed away. Chinese is easy.
"Sounds good, hunny" my dad got up off my floor and walked out of the room. I walked over to one of my many boxes labeled "stuff".
Descriptive Danielle. I rolled my eyes at myself. I opened the box, picking up a picture that was on top. It was a picture of my mother and I when I was around three. That was two years before my mom had left. She looked so happy in that picture, we were looking at each other, my hair in my mouth. We had been at a park somewhere, she was holding me on her lap. I felt my stomach growl, bringing me back to the present.
I walked out to the living room to see my dad hang up the phone. He turned around and smiled at me. "Hey, Dani, I just ordered the usual, is that okay?" Our usual was fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and hot and spicy soup. What can I say, we know what we like. I walked back to my room and got out my iPod and headphones. Thank goodness I had thought to put them in my bag, I can't live without my music. I lied down on the floor and put on one of my favorite songs, "The Big Bang", by Rock Mafia.
I guess I had dozed off because I opened my eyes and my dad was kneeling beside me. "The food is here" He got up and held out a hand to help me up, I took it and pulled out my headphones. My dad began walking out of my room and stopped by the door to pick up the picture of my mom and I. I had set it on a box when I walked out the door earlier. He stared at picture for a few minutes, then set it down and walked out of the room.
My dad and I ate dinner on the floor while listening to The Beatles, a favorite of both mine and my dad's. After dinner we pulled out our sleeping bags, which we had conveniently remembered to put on top of one of our boxes and laid them out of the floor of the kitchen. I got my iPod, and fell asleep listening to an Amy Winehouse song.
I woke up to the smell of bacon and toast. That is officially my favorite smell to wake up to. I opened my eyes and looked up at my dad cooking on the stove. I was still in the kitchen from sleeping there. I sat up and wiped my eyes, I had forgotten to wash my face last night before I went to sleep, so I probably looked like an oversized raccoon. I stood up and hugged my dad. "Smells great, dad." My dad was a great cook, he always loved it, but it was never anything more than a hobby. "I hope it tastes good," my dad knew he was a good cook, he just sometimes liked to feign humility. "Come on Dad, you know it will taste great". He smirked.
After we ate the breakfast, on the floor I might add, I went to put my jogging clothes on. I was going to run on the beach, to try and accustom myself to living around here. Luna Beach was quite a place. I got my jogging clothes on, and of course got my music. I jogged down the back steps, and onto the beach. I passed the sunbathing girls, dogs walking their owners, and kids playing in the sand. I hadn't been looking where I was going, and instead changing my music, when I suddenly tripped over something and fell on my face.
I looked up to see a pissed looking blond girl with sand all over her. It turned out I hadn't tripped over something, but someone.
