"Laura?" Christian asks softly, his voice hoarse.
I open my eyes slightly, then groan when the sunlight reaches my eyes. "Why did you have to wake me up from my wonderful slumber?"
Christian chuckles. "Your 'wonderful slumber' was very loud and now there's drool on my arm."
I roll my eyes and sit up from his chest, stretching my stiff limbs. "Thank you," I whisper, pushing away just as he presses his lips to the back of my head.
"I'd do anything for you," I hear him whisper as I make my way to the bathroom for a hot shower to clear my mind.

I crouch down in the shower, the hot water running down on my head, near where my scar is from surgery. Lately, I've felt more and more like myself, but with restrictions. I still take pills for my pain—which hasn't stopped yet—and still can't do much. School is still off limits, but I haven't fallen behind. I'm farther ahead than I've ever been, so ready for college.
The hot water pools against my body, slowly covering me. The water reaches my neck, then my lips. It's not until Christian bursts in, yelling at me to get up that I realize I almost drowned. I smile up at him, closing my eyes. My gasping for air subsided for a moment, cutting off my oxygen supply. Darkness greets me as a familiar friend, enveloping me in her cold, vast blanket.

Christian's POV
I rush into the bathroom where Laura disappeared ten minutes ago, seeing water seep into the carpet. I slosh through the water, making my way to the shower tub. I shut off the water and drag her out, shaking her shoulders to wake her up. She smiles at me, her eye lids drooping.
"Laura!" I yell, lightly smacking her cheek as I lay her down against my chest. "Don't leave me," I whisper, clutching her shoulder.
Tears flood my eyes and blur my vision as I rise off the floor and wrap a towel around her to dry her off. Remembering my CPR classes, I begin compressions.
"Dear God," I whisper, closing my eyes. "Save her."
