Consumed Generation

I take you out to dinner

But I don't feel like this is a date

When I look into your eyes 

Inside I'm filled with hate 

Because while I look into your eyes your looking into a screen 

Did you want to be here with me?

Or look at another dude's selfie?

Were at the dinner table and your looking at your phone 

Did you want to be with me or should I have come alone 

I remember the dates when your weren't playing your game 

But what happened? Why isn't it the same

Were so consumed by this stupid generation 

That it becomes harder to get people's attention 

This generation of technology has become so consuming 

That even little kids find Ipads so amusing 

But when they put down that device life seems so confusing 

I see kids taking selfies and twerking

And just by looking I know this generation isn't working

What I don't see is kids playing at the park 

What has happened to the swings have they all lost there spark?

Have all the balls deflated?

Were all the toys broken?

Or was a new invention created where we are left unspoken

And the fact that our conversations have no eye contact

And can only work through Whatsapp and Snapchat is wack!

I don't want technology to rule my life!

I don't want to rely on a stupid device!

I want conversations without abbreviations or someone else's creation!

When I touch these touch screens I seem to loose touch from the people around me 

We get excited when we get likes on a selfie 

But we roll our eyes when we obtain love form our family?

You can hardly hear people because our attention is focused on an invention ignoring our family's caring affection

And when it's not on our phones we have seem to have lost connection

People's selfies have either been liked or put to shame

I wonder what happened to simple picture frames 

We stare into a box for ours that it becomes harder contain

We aim for a lot of likes like this is a game 

We stay up late at night posting pics for instafame 

You know what seems extinct?

Love...

Because why say "I love you"

When a simple text of "ILY" will do 

Were so connected to a screen that love seems disconnected 

While all these devices work HUMANITY is the only one being infected!
