"You're no closer to becoming a kishin, Adrian. Your sister on the other hand is on the verge of becoming one. You two have been eating the same amount of souls right?" Asked the scientist who was standing on the opposite side of the window that looked into my padded holding cell.

I hugged my pillow closer and nodded.

"Lady Kitsune will be coming to evaluate your progress. Perhaps she'll be able to give you a little push," the man said almost with a look of regret on his face. That made sense, he may have been the head scientist, but he was also my father.

I didn't want the witch to come. I didn't want to be a kishin. But I never told them that. They would have to punish me if I didn't cooperate, so I did what I could to avoid eating souls and lied about eating them. My sister was the one who ate the souls that I didn't want. She was doing it for me, but she was slowly loosing her mind, forgetting her humanity.

Suddenly another scientist ran into the observation room where people could look at me through a window and speak to me through a microphone. "Sir! The witch, Kitsune is here!"

I stiffened up. Was it true? Was she actually here? They'd said she was visiting before, but she never did.

A woman wearing a tight dress under a long red cloak walked into the observation room. She had long orange hair tipped with white, amber eyes, fox ears poking out from her hair and what looked like nine fox tails protruding from her back. She glanced in my direction and said loud enough for me to hear through the glass, "I'd like to assess the progress of the kishin children."

Two guards came to escort me from my cell and brought me to a large enclosed yard, along with my sister Sabrina. The woman was standing on a balcony high above. "Show me what you can do," she commanded. A small door opened in the far side of the yard and a ginger kitten wandered out. "Kill it."

"Wee! We get to kill the kitty!" Exclaimed Sabrina excitedly. She transformed her arm into the blade of a battle ax and ran at the kitten. I couldn't let her do this, so I transformed my own arm into a broadsword. I lunged at the kitten, wrapping my arm around it and blocking Sabrina's attacks with my blade. "Brother, we have to kill the kitty for the fox lady!" She shouted, swinging wildly at me.

"No we don't! You love cats, remember?" I argued, trying to reason with her.

"But killing the kitty is fun!" She giggled.

"ENOUGH!" Yelled the fox woman. Sabrina ceased her attacks, stepping away from me. I got up and stood next to my sister, hugging the kitten close to my chest. Kitsune walked through a door from the balcony. A few minutes later she walked into the yard and stood in front of us. She looked from me to Sabrina with an expression of curiosity. "The girl is showing wonderful progress, and is actually developing faster than anticipated. Continue your work with her," she stated, "as for the boy," she paused for a moment, thinking, "dispose of him."

"How should we get rid of him, lady Kitsune?" Asked my father.

"I don't care! Drown him, bash him on the head, leave him in the desert, whatever you want to do, just get this failure out of my sight!" She shouted.

He nodded solemnly, looking at me with a pained expression. A pair of guards came up to me, guiding me toward a large grey van. "Bye bye brother! You're gonna die now!" Sabrina shouted excitedly. I watched Kitsune put her arm around my sister, guiding her toward the door she entered through. My father hopped into the van, sitting next to me.

I knew I wasn't supposed to cry. But that didn't stop the tears from running down my cheeks. "Why did you let them take us?" I asked, looking at my father.

My father looked at me with a pained expression. "I never gave you up," he said, "I was in another town on business when kitsune's followers came. They burned down the whole village and took you and your sister. By the time I'd tracked you down, Sabrina was well on her way to becoming a kishin. I tried to get you two out, but the facility was so heavily guarded I didn't make it past the front gates. I decided that I would have to be a part of her organization if I wanted to have any chance of saving you. I got onto the staff and worked my way up the ranks to the point where I was able to see you two every day. But you were monitored 24/7. There was never an opportunity to get you out. I'm so sorry, Adrian, I should have tried harder. I'm such a failure of a father." He began to cry. "I can never make up for that, but I'm going to try. I'm letting you go near death city, but still out of the range of soul perception. Go toward the city and tell them about what happened to you and your sister. I'll keep an eye on her progress and will be able to give you updates with this," he added, handing me a medallion. "Now, go Adrian, and don't look back!"

A/N oooooo new character! Isn't that interesting? I'm sure no one really cares... So yeah sorry for taking so long to update. I'm juggling school and drama and extra curricular stuff and just life in general. I know I'm making excuses but that's what I do second best. What do I do best you ask? Procrastinate. So yeah add that onto the list of reasons why I don't update.
