Hahahahaha!! I got it on time! I honestly thought I wouldn't be able too, since this is the last update for summer. School starts next Monday for me, and one terk is my school is online, so I can do science and write this at the same time!
≈ºAndrea of Don Louisº≈
I was sitting in my room when he arrived. I folded dress after dress into a traveller’s bag. I was careful with my Acquisition dress, since I wasn’t sure if I would need it again. One after another my packing was nearing completion when Sarah came in.
“There’s someone here to see you.” Her voice was different now, more authoritative and knowing. I looked up at my friend and smiled. She looked different too, and it wasn’t just her new red gown. She was holding herself higher, not as shy, and she had this glow about her that said “I am important.”
I latched the top of the bag to a series of buttons, to be ready when Leran took me to my teacher. “Is this someone waiting in the corridor or somewhere else?” I implored, shaking my hair loose from it’s braid.
“He’s out in the courtyard.” She said briskly, not wanting to waste a single breath. I wasn’t very sure if I liked this new Sarah.
I stepped lightly out the door and down the passage towards the large courtyard. The first thing I saw was the charred remains of the old barn. I placed my hand on a piece of wood, trying to think about the fire.
“Excuse me, miss?” A man placed his hand on my shoulder, shocking me out of my thought.
I hadn’t seen this man before. I would’ve remembered his dark blue eyes and his well-groomed black hair. He stood straight, which made me guess he was a knight, but his buckskin tunic was in fine shape, so either he was a farmer or a really good fighter. “How can I help you, sir?” I made sure to sound formal, not wanting to insult him.
“I’m looking for an Andrea of Don Louis. Where might I find here?” His eyes kept looking up and down me not with lust, but like he was making sure I was unarmed and unable to get away.
I looked down at the ground for a second, contemplating what could happen in all scenarios; one, I tell him and he kills me. Two, I tell him, and turns out he’s looking for me as the newest Hunter. Three, I don’t tell him and he kills me. Four, I don’t tell him and miss a great opportunity.
“I’m Andrea, sir.” It’s unlikely he’s here to kill me. “Is there a reason you are looking for me?”
“My name is Fa-” A roar stopped his talking. We both scanned the horizon, peering into the forest and up in the sky. I jumped to the side when I saw the beast charge out of the woods.
It was the size of a horse, down on all fours and unlike the last Hunted I faced, this one was brown with green spots. This monster had three horns above it’s ugly snout and the body was protected by a hard shell, with cracks running along the chest and sides. It’s eyes fell on me and a fire seemed to ignite inside it. With another fierce roar it ran at me, and my first thought was “impale” and the next thought was “MOVE!”
I ran towards Fa and pulled the sword from his belt. He yelled in protest as I dragged the heavy blade on the ground. The beast stared at me, and I did the same. As our battle of wills grew more and more intense, I found enough strength to raise the broadsword. I dared the Hunted to charge, with the promise that it would taste steel.
The beast began the charge to ram me, and my arm felt hot and irritating. I looked down, trying to breath out the pain. I thrusted the sword into the Hunted’s cracked chest plate and it howled in pain. It tried to jumped off the sword but to no avail. I stared at the blade, trying not to focus on the burning sensation in my arm. The longer I stared at the blade, the more the creature thrashed and howled and the less my arm hurt. I pulled out the sword and fell on my butt, watching the creature writhe in pain.
Fa ran to my side and watched in a mix of horror and awe as the Hunted exploded in fire and burned to ash. “That doesn’t happen everyday.” He breathed.
He helped me to my feet. “Thank you Fa.” I brush the dirt off of my tan dress.
He gives a hearty laugh. “My name isn’t Fa.” He shook his head as he continued to snicker. “It’s Farron.”
That name seemed familiar. “Hunter of Don Corey?” I wondered aloud, covering my mouth and cursing my head.
He nodded. “Leran came to me last night in Redio. He told me you’re my apprentice.” I was awestruck.
Farron was known throughout Priya as the most exceptional Hunter. They said he had nothing to lose and would go into a fight thinking “If I die, I die. No different than any other man.” I couldn’t believe for a second that this man was going train me.
“Common.” He said a bit harshly.
He turned on the balls of his heels and moved swiftly towards the open gate into town. I hopped to his side, feeling bubbly inside. Not only was he cute, he was training me!
“Where are we going?”
“Into town.”
“Why?”
“We’re going to get supplies.”
