Secret No. 3: Blend in always, but stand out in the Field
-Naomi-
I was playing tennis with Cody, Seth and Drew. Cody and I partnered up for two games. Not to be proud, but we were winning out of the five games mostly because of me. No kidding.
'Naomiii!" A high-pitched voice cried out.
Shoot! I hit the ball out of the court! What the hell now they won a game. 3 is to 1 out of 5. I don't like losing. I really don't at all.
'Ash. What was so important that you have to call me in the middle of a game?' I asked her flatly.
'Uh nothing? I was just shocked to see you here?' She giggled stupidly.
I stomped away to play the last game with the second last game. If Cody and I won this game, we would be the ultimate champions.
'Don't cheer or anything!' I shouted across the field to Ashleigh who was sitting on the ground with one of the brothers I couldn't remember what his name was. Typical Ash, I thought, shaking my head.
This last game was intense. Although I was enjoying it, I couldn't deny that Seth and Drew were good. So was Cody. Obviously they would be since they owned a tennis court. Or I would laugh.
'Naomi! Incoming!' Cody shouted to me.
I dint bother to get the ball.
'What are you doing?' Cody shouted as he dashed for the ball.
Plop!
The ball bounced out of the court.
'We won!' I smiled at Cody who stared at me as though I was...what was the best word to describe it? Saint. Nawt.
'Yay Naomi! I'm so proud that you are my sister!' Ash cheered and jumped.
I exchanged handshakes with my opponents while they exchanged funny looks at me.
'What?' I asked them self-consciously.
'I have never in my life see a girl play and win a boy. Definitely not us.' Seth answered. Was it admiration in his voice?
I laughed and 'thanked' them as I walked towards my sister and the unknown guy. I heard the sound of footsteps behind me and a moment later, Drew was by my side.
'You play sports?' He asked. I liked this guy. He reminded me of a younger brother I always begged for my parents to give me. I was glad we got along pretty well too.
'Yup.' I replied, popping the 'P' sound.
'Football, basketball, tennis, badminton, softball, rugby, track and field.' He announced proudly.
Ha! I wanted to laugh. He wanted to compete with me is it? Then I shall show him what a girl like me got.
'Football, basketball, tennis, badminton, softball, rugby, track and field.' I smirked.
'That's all?' He teased.
'Nope. Swimming, archery, canoeing, karate, water-skiing, volleyball, netball, , fencing, tchoukball, equestrian and yoga.' I told him nonchalantly.
Gotcha boy! I cheered as I noticed Drew drooling with his mouth wide open.
'Drew drools!' I grinned at the brown haired boy and pushed his jaws together.
'I totally out pawned by you! Man, you are as equally athletic as Nico!'
My stomach lurched as that name was mentioned although I don't know the reason why. Okay, maybe I do, but I am so thick-skinned at times that I don't want to face the truth.
The others caught up with us and talked about the game we played. Liam, the guy whom came with Ash to watch the game told us both that they actually owned a full basketball court at the back of their mansion. Exactly how big was it was what I wanted to know.
'Aimee! I did not hear you leaving your room..'
'I told you I wanted to go for a run. But then I saw the guys playing tennis and so I decided to play a game against them.' She was eyeing me suspiciously.
After she stared at me for awhile, she grabbed my wrist and pulled me to a corner.
'I thought you told me to get my head in the game!' she whispered-shouted at me and made the sign when she said game.
'And so were you with a guy.' I pointed out as a matter of fact.
Her face noticeably turned crimson red.
'Ashleigh Sloan Hotz! Is that your face blushing or my eyes seeing things?' I teased her. I was shocked. Never in my life have I seen her blushing when I mentioned a boy to her. And I thought I was the shy one. Only when I was not competing on sports of course!
She was about to protest but then the boys came over to us and told us we should get home for dinner of Marian will 'freak'.
'Tonight', she mouthed to me. I made the 'okay' signed with my index and thumb stuck together.
My stomach growled super duper loudly as we were walking back. Damn! I cursed my over-reacting tummy as the boys and my sister burst out in to fits of laughter.
'What? Can't a girl be hungry even?' I snapped at them and walk off.
'Hey hey! You are going the wrong direction!' Seth shouted as I stomped off towards the forest. I blushed and turned to catch up with them but then my feet somehow got jammed, causing me to trip.
OH NO I WAS FALLING!
I pair of steady and strong arms caught me by the waist saving me from a week of pained bruised leg.
'You alright?' my savior asked.
I nodded and then untangled myself from my savior. Muttering a curt 'thanks', I blushed and went to catch up with my sister.
