Secret No. 7: Spying Like Jagger (Part1)
-Ashleigh-
'Got the key?' I whispered oh-so-softly to Naomi.
'What did you say?' She asked loudly.
Instinctively, I cupped my perfectly manicured fingers on her lips to shut her up.
'What the fuck? You trying to get us caught? Have you got it or not?' I growled at her. Sometimes my sister is a real nut-case. Oh, maybe I may have mentioned before.
'Chill babe. It's safe in my pocket.' she poked me in the ribs to cheer my sour mood up. I can't deny that I was feeling moody today, all thanks to Liam the lionboy who got me into detention on my very first day of school! Stupid asshole!
'So you found the room?' She whispered softly.
I nodded.
'Double checked everyone's asleep?' I asked her in return.
Bobbing her head, she indicated 'yes'.
As stealthily as thieves, except that we were not, we tip-toe towards the study room of Michael Gazelle. He had just arrived home from a business trip when we came home from school this afternoon. Not losing any chances while he was back, Naomi and I planned to do some investigation on him. It was a difficult job as we had to stay up until everyone in the household was sleeping. And imagine having to wait for eight Gazelles to go to bed... It was already 3am in the wee hours of the morning when we can get going. Thinking of sleep, my eyelids began to feel heavy. Uncontrollably, my mouth let out a tiny yawn.
'Ow! What did you slap me for!' I almost shouted.
'Shut up will you? You have no idea how noisy you are!' Naomi nagged. Yeah, always the good twin.
Soon we reached a big wooden door, snatching the key impatiently from Naomi's hand, I quietly unlocked the doors of the study room. What would we find inside, I wondered. As soon as we stepped in, our eyes adjusted to the room almost at once for we had been in the dark for God knows how long.
'C'mom, let's search for some documents of his business.' She took charge as usual.
'This better be good.' I yawned once again and began to pull out every drawers for any evidence of Michael's dealings while Naomi 'manhandled' the huge desk.
THUMP!
'Shit! It's too dark to see ...' Naomi made a vague excuse.
'Blind!' I laughed at her clumsiness.
'Bitch!' she scolded me back.
'Nerd!'
'Loud!'
'Look who's talking!' I spat back.
'No I meant you are speaking really loudly. I think I heard something.' she said slowly.
We quieten down and I heard a creaking of the wood. Someone must be outside walking.
Oh no, we should hide, my brain hollered at me.
'Take cover!' Naomi whispered-shouted. I unfroze at once and hid in the cupboard. I know, it's not thy impressive for a spy. Whatever.
The footsteps got louder by the second. I reckoned that it would come to a halt in three, two, one second.
The doors of the study flew open. But who could that be? Everyone was asleep.
'Dad, are you alright?' the voice asked. I knew who was it at once!
Nico Gazelle.
'Not really. I have been getting migraine ever since the last trip. Get me some painkillers will you?' another voice whom was no doubt Michael's voice.
