MARCH (( LARK ))
The distinctive tang of iron tickled my taste buds, a tranquil stinging throbbed within the meat of my cheek. Not only did the condescending petite clout from Valerie's silken palm induce blood, but her quintessential feminine nails nicked the icy skin beneath my eye like a heated talon. Subdued wrath broiled silently in my chest, livid tongues of humiliation blinding my mind despite the chill spring breeze creeping past my body. A memory suddenly echoed in my head, of the sudden smile the boy gave me last month. If only Helen was here... I fumed, frustration lodged at the back of my throat.
"He's not even interested in you, give up already."
A bolt of ignited fury charged throughout my body like a raging bull, forcing me to whip my head up and glower at her as I stood up to face that infuriatingly radiant scowl. Electricity crackling in the air, my anger refused to retreat any further until it had stared into the eyes of hatred.
"No."
Rays from the morning sun glinted despairingly off the deliquescing snow in front of the cafeteria, the trickle of students entering the campus halting one by one as Valerie hurled another scalding slap on my other cheek. Taken aback, I jerked my gaze back to meet those glowing cinder orbs, specks of flaming ash seeming to flicker off her iris.
"Even a bird can't fly higher than the sun."
A pale cherry blossom budded on the tree.
I straightened my back.
"It doesn't have to."
