                 *8 months later*
The sound of the piano filled the rooms of the institute, the sweet melodies bringing the other supernaturals out of hiding. It had been years since the sound of piano music sang throughout the building, and Alec stopped his training to listen. He had been working on his shot with the bow. He wanted to be just as good as Kat, who never missed her target. But the melodies drifting through the walls brought him to a pause. His mother used to play songs to him and Isabelle when they were little, but ever since her death years ago, no one touched the piano's keys.
He began to walk towards the piano room, eager to see the girl that was playing. He knew the only person who could play it as well as his mother had, was the beautiful blonde that captured his attention the second he saw her. He stood in the shadows of the doorway and smiled at the sight.
Kat was sitting on the bench, her fingers gliding over the keys. Her hair was cascading over her shoulders, and falling down her back. She looked beautiful. Jace and Clary were next to the piano, their arms around each other. Clary's head was resting on Jace's shoulders, and he was holding her tight against him. Kat occasionally glanced up at the two and smiled.
Kat and Isabelle had been playing matchmaker for Jace and Clary. Ever since the first night she arrived, Kat had known that the werewolf and shapeshifter had feelings for each other. Isabelle and her then launched a "Clace" campaign. They would constantly lock the two in rooms alone, set them up on dates, and talk to each of them about love. Eventually Jace and Clary had enough of their antics, and kissed in front of the other 5 institute supernaturals. Now, about 2 months since then, the two were slow dancing while Kat played the piano for them.
When Kat finished her song, Jace and Clary kissed quickly, and thanked her. She stood and hugged them, smiling beautifully. Jace waved to Alec as they walked from the piano room. Alec didn't want Kat to know he was there just yet. He crept back into the shadows, watching her.
Kat wandered from the piano, looking up at the glass ceiling of the room. The sun shone down through the planes, casting shadows on the floor. The walls were painted a light lavender, which reminded Alec of Kat's eyes.
"It's not very good manners to spy on a lady.," Kat spoke into the quiet of the room. She turned towards Alec as he stepped inside.
"My apologies, Katerina." Alec walked towards the piano. "I knew you could play the piano, but I didn't know it was that well."
"I've played for almost my whole life...along with other musical instruments. I tend to use music as an escape from the real world." Kat sat on the couch next the piano and patted the seat next to her. Alec joined her. She placed her legs across his lap, and he smiled at her.
"I know. You're extremely talented. I must admit, I, uh, eavesdrop on you when you sing in your bedroom...I hope you're not mad about that." Alec admitted quietly. Kat had a beautiful voice, and he wished he could listen to it every day.
"I'm not mad Alexander. I don't mind people listening to my music. I don't write it just for me." Kat replied leaning towards Alec. "Back in the 1920's, I would sing on stage in Magnus and I's favorite bars. Men would fawn over me, but I wasn't interested." Kat looked at Alec with a smirk.
The two sat in silence for a few minutes, enjoying each other's company. Alec studied Kat, admiring her. He looked at her eyes, there purple color, with specks of gold around her pupils. They were the most beautiful eye he'd ever seen. Her hair was white gold, long and wavy, framing her face. She had the front pulled back and hanging in a braid while the rest was loose. He slender body felt like nothing on Alec's legs, and his eyes roamed downed her body, pausing to rest on her abdomen. She had a belly ring that looked like a dreamcatcher and gems in a line down her hip. She had a quote from one her songs beneath her belly button: "I ponder of something great." She had explained it's meaning to him before, that no matter what she's been through she will always try to look for the positive. Kat had plenty of marks from her long life, including a semi colon on her wrist, a bow and arrow on the sides of her fingers, a book stack on her side, music notes trailing down her foot, to name a few. Alec loved to look at her. She was just so beautiful.
"What?" She asked him, noticing him staring. Kat had never felt like she was the woman men would be interested in. She had spent almost her whole life being ridiculed and insulted. After hearing it for so long, she had started to believe it. Alec was beginning to pull her out of the shell she had built for herself regarding love. She could feel herself developing feelings, and that scared her, but she couldn't stop them.
"Sorry, just, you look lovely," Alec stuttered to her, his face reddening. "I have to go meet Jace for a mission.," he said quickly, moving Kat's legs and jumping off the couch. "I'll see you later ok?"
"Ok Alexander," Kat replied with a smile and a wave. She watched him leave the room to go find his parabatai. She stood up and walked back towards the piano. She placed her fingers on the keys, and began to play. The melody was sad and sweet, with notes running over each other like water. It was a lullaby her mother would play to her in the Great Pyramid many years ago. It filled her with a sense of longing for her family, and a sense of hope as well. She played the piece with all she had, trying to show her emotions through the music. It was almost the only way she knew how.
