I remember when my daddy went crazy , and shot mama with that gun. It was a hot summer night . Daddy had been drinking and mama had hidden the rest of his beer. Daddy got angry really fast , he got into his rusty old pick-up truck and left the house .
My Mama had always tried to act brave around him . But I knew Just like everyone else she was as scared as a turkey in November. Daddy came back that night even drunker and angrier than before .
He was yelling and cursing and throwing things . I could hear my mama saying "Put that down Jack " and Daddy saying "I swear Rose I will kill you" . My mama had started crying " you don't mean that " she would say.
That's when I heard it . It was loud and sharp "POW!*
I got out of my bed ,and walked into the kitchen . I saw my mama laying on the floor , with blood all round her head . And my Daddy still pointing the gun at nothing . He looked so young at that moment , so powerless. He dropped to his knees and started crying "oh god, Rose what have I done."
My next door neighbor had diled 911 and the police arrived and arrested my daddy. I was sent too live with my Uncle Webber and my Two cousins Mandy and Lilly .
I don't really know why my momma named me Hope . Cause that was something my family had very little of . Something I had very little of . But all of that was then and this .... Is now .
