So this is the first of my own OC one-shots. This is meant to be an example of what I am like as a writer. Hopefully you like my one-shots, however as stated in the summary this is my first one. If you like them go ahead and request. This oneshot is a lot more descriptive than the rest as I wrote it as I procrastinated for an exam *Sweatdrop*
-------------------------
Character info...
Name: Ayame
Age: 16 - this is set during Shippuden during the Fourth Shinobi War
H/c: Brown
E/c: Green
Personality: acts fine and calm, but on the inside she is a worrier; kind; caring; soft to complement Kiba's harsh behaviour; pacifistic (is that the right word? :/ )
Friends: Most of the time she is friendly with everyone but her best friends is Naruto.
Skills:...well, she is not the best shinobi, but she does make really good ramen from scratch that could challenge Ichiraku's! Her place on the team (she's on team 10) is the medic-nin as she dislikes the thought of hurting people.

The image used in the story was created by One67. She is an amazing artist and you can find her work here on dA:

So, introduction to the OC is over so let's crack on with this!

-------------------------------------

'Do you think he's alright? Of course he's alright.

But what about Akamaru? He's a dog he could easily be hurt.
No, no, no, they're both fine. Both fine.
Absolutely great.

Who the hell am I kidding?! This is war! He's out there right now and I don't know if he's alive or dead.
...or dead...
No. Ayame, if you start thinking that then you'll end up believing it and lose focus.
Got to stay calm and breathe.
Everything's going to be okay.
He's not dead. Akamaru's not dead. They're both perfectly fine.'

...

Hands shook as they sew up the open wound of the leg – no the shinobi's leg. Ayame has seen so many wounds these past few weeks that she no longer sees them as human beings, but objects that require repairs. Blood seeping through onto the surrounding gauze. The patient's face scrunched up in pain as he bit into the leather strap. Ayame swiped her hand across her forehead in a quick movement, removing the sweat that had built up on her brow before continuing her work. The blistering heat was not good conditions for the task at hand. Around the table where Ayame was stitching up the wounded shinobi's leg were half a dozen others waiting in the tent to get treated.

As she finished stitching up the shinobi's leg she uses her chakra to apply the final touches. Hopefully this will mend the shinobi so that she can go back out and fight. I'll probably see her again soon (in a body bag)...Ayame shrugs that last frightening thought off as she helps the woman up on to a chair which stands in one of the corners of the tent before moving on to the next.

It's not her fault that she thinks like this. Hardened by what she has witnessed, Ayame faintly remembers the sensation of her lover's touch sending her back to a time when life was simpler...When they were together and nothing stood in their path as long as they had each other.

...

The birds chirped as the sun rose from the horizon. The great orb illuminating the entire village in a warm glow which effected everyone. From the ignorant children playing in the park to the stern village elders. It was that time of the year between spring and summer where it wasn't too hot but there was definitely an inkling in the air which caused the flowers to bloom, the birds to sing, and a hazy resemblance of love all round.

This peaceful silence was, of course, shattered by the loud-mouth shinobi that we all know and love, Naruto. On this fine morning Ayame awoke to the blond shaking her and urging her to tell her to declare her "love" for Kiba.
"Come ON, Ayame-chan! You've liked Kiba since we were in the academy. Just tell him already!"
"You don't get it, Naruto-kun. If I were to tell him and he rejects me then it'd make it awkward for not just us but for Hinata and Shino...and to tell you the truth I think the odds are stacked against me. When have you ever seen Kiba interested in me?"
"..."
"Naruto-kun? Are you okay?" Ayame looked over at her friend in concern...'when is he this quiet?'
"Just tell him okay? I'm sure it'll be fine." It was as though Naruto was staring right into her soul at that point, he was never this serious when it came to Kiba. With a stiff upper lip, Ayame agreed, knowing that if she went back on the agreement she'd taint her friendship with Naruto.

And so, with heavy heart and anxiousness of the pending rejection Ayame would receive, she went looking for Kiba. She looked everywhere: the Inuzuka compound; the park; Ichiraku; even the park. Still she couldn't find him and soon she gave up. She rested beneath a cherry blossom tree, leaning against the hard bark which was uncomfortable where ridges met her back. A few of the soft pink petals fell, brushing her form. She sighed as she watched the couples walk by holding hands, smiling, gazing lovingly into each other's eyes... "Why can't I have that?"

"Have what, Ayame-chan?"

'Did I just say that aloud? Oh kami...someone heard me express my loneliness...hang on a second...that sounded like KIBA. Oh no, oh no! I'm not ready for this!'

Ayame hesitantly swivelled around to find a nose press against hers. A tongue licked at her face as she released a sigh of relief as she realised it was only Akamaru. A voice from behind her snapped her out of her daze

"Hey, Akamaru, knock it off! Ayame-chan looks like she's gonna puke, leave her alone."

'Kiba' Ayame then looked up to meet those black eyes. Not cold like the Uchiha's, but mysterious. Those slates of obsidian never fail to elude Ayame. They contrasted so perfectly with her bright green ones. Her thoughts are once again interrupted by his voice. Kiba is kneeling right in front of her now, taking her hands into his.

"Ayame, are you okay? You keep zoning out. It's worrying me."

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why would you be worried about me?" She felt like there were fireworks being let off within her as she heard that single word; worried. 'Did he say he worried about me? What does that mean?'

Kiba looked to the side as a faint blush spread across his cheeks, his fang markings only worsening the look on his face. "Well, umm, what I mean is that I care for you, I-I mean you are one of my teammates after all. Can't have you dying on us." He gently nudged her arm in a joking manner as she looked on.

The fireworks stopped. 'I can't do this...I can't do this! He only sees me as a teammate and nothing more.' Tears began to pool at the rims of her eye sockets. Her heart ached which made her hunch over slightly as she felt like her chest was being constricted. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to think. It just hurt.

Kiba looked on in alarm to her reaction.

'Pull yourself together, Ayame! It's now or never. If he doesn't feel the same way then too bad. At least you will have let go of this fear that he'll never know.
What if he rejects me though and he falls in love wi– no!
You are NOT using this excuse again! Tell him!'

Ayame stared into his eyes. 'Those eyes...' She took a deep breath 'this is it...'

"Kiba, I love you. I have for a long time. I understand if you don't feel the same way but I just wanted you to know"

Ayame rose to her feet but before she could take a step her waist was held in a firm hold. She could feel hot breath crawling down her neck as Kiba's lips were next to her ear. They gazed into each other's eyes. Kiba had a wide grin etched on to his face. It was as though time had frozen.

"I love you too."

It was the last thing Ayame could remember as her mind went blank as soon as strong lips clashed to hers. She responded quickly and poured all her love and passion into the kiss. As they parted they heard a branch above them groan, and not long after, crash to the ground with a thud. Among the spread of petals, they could see a bright orange figure... 'Naruto, he set this up'.

...

'It seems so long ago that it may have been a dream. It's only been a few months.'

Ayame smiles as she reflects on that day. She almost forgot where she was until the gasp of a wounded shinobi writhing in pain below her caught her attention. The man looked familiar. He was from Kiba's division. The smile was wiped from her face in an instant as she automatically thought the worst.

'Maybe I should go out and see if I can find him? No! Shinobi do not leave their post. I will live. For him.'

Little did Ayame know but that is what ran through Kiba's mind too...

...the next day...

The war had ended. The ten tails and Kaguya were sealed and the beginning of the age of peace has begun. However there were still plenty of shinobi who had lost their lives and those had to be honoured. The dead were gathered at the medic division. Kiba and Akamaru carried two soldiers to the masses of corpses. Regardless of the dead, all he could do was worry about Ayame and how she was coping. He knew of her dislike against violence and seeing all those injured must have disturbed her.

Kiba searched for Ayame until he reached a tent where Hinata was standing outside. Questioning it, he walked over to Hinata where she stood nervously. He peeked through the gap in the tent and what he saw made his stomach fall. There, his Ayame – his lover – lay before him. She was pale and looked exhausted to the point where it was surprising she hadn't fainted. Hinata could tell her chakra levels were at a dangerously low level, which is why she stood outside as she could not stomach seeing her friend and teammate in such a state. Kiba slowly walked towards her and slumped on to his knees.

Ayame's eyes opened as though it pained her to do so. Kiba swallowed as he took in the sight of the woman he loved. No loves. He grabbed her hands and transferred his chakra to her.

"Come on, Ayame. You CAN'T die on me!"

For hours he would sit by her side using all of his chakra to keep her conscious. After what seemed like forever Sakura came into the tent. She kneeled across from Kiba and used her medic ninjutsu to see how Ayame was doing. She looked up at him with a calm expression and said: "She's going to be alright. We need to let her rest up and not put too much stress on her." Kiba released air that he didn't know he was holding in. Relief crashed over him like a wave.

...after the shinobi return to the villages...

Ayame watched her boys – Kiba and Akamaru, that is – play in the park while she lay underneath the tree where it had all began. Her heart warmed at the memory. Kiba turned to glance at her before running over. Kiba and Ayame kiss passionately as the cherry blossoms float and land on the ground surrounding them. Kiba breaks from the kiss and cradles her face in his hands as he gazes lovingly into her eyes and says the three words she craves to hear: "I love you"

He loved her. He said it without a trace of doubt in his voice. They loved each other.
Forever.
