Chapter 8

After the meal was over we headed to the courtyard and then to the stables. Once there Hinata went to the stable master and said hi which in return the elderly man hugged her and said how nice it was to see her again.

Hinata then waved me over and said, "Drake this is Sabor he is our stable master. Anything you want to know about horses he knows. Sabor this is Lord Drake Torquain of Dragar he will be in need of a horse today."

Sabor looks me over and then smiles and says, "It is nice to meet you My Lord. Let us see what we can find that will fit someone of your size. If I am not mistaken you seem to be familiar with horses are you not?"

I smile at him and say, "Yes I am I love horses. You can call me Drake. I don't see a point in formalities between two people who are talking on free terms about something they both like."

He smiles again but it disappears almost immediately and replaced with a frown as Quatra walks in and all the horses start giving hysterics. He then says, "I thought I told you to never enter here again. What do you want?"

Quatra just smiles and says, "Well hello to you too my dear Sabor. I was just here to get Hellfire. You don't have to be so rude and since when do you have the right to deny me access to the stables."
Sabor says, "Since I am the stable master. I have the right to deny access to anybody who disturbs the horses. Your damn monster that you call a horse is in the small stable off to the left. Now leave and don't come back."

As Quatra leaves Sabor says, "Sorry about that but every time that man comes in here all the horses get worked up. There is something wrong with him and the horses don't like it. And as I always say if a horse doesn't trust someone then nine times out of ten the master shouldn't either. If you young ones want some advice be careful around him and don't trust him even as far as you can throw him. Now enough of this, Hinata, Starblaze is in her normal stall you can get one of the other hands to help you with her saddle if you want. If you come with me Drake we will find you a suitable horse."

I follow him down the stalls thinking about what just happened. I agreed with Sabor that Quatra was not to be trusted but why did the horses get so upset about him just entering. I couldn't figure it out.

Just then I hear a neighing sound and then I hear the sound of wood breaking. I turn around and see a large, beautiful, black horse come running up the lane straight at us. I grab Sabor and toss him into a hay pile just as the horse gets to me it rears on it's his hind legs and then comes down and snorts at me.

Very slowly I raise my hands to it and speak slowly and softly so not to spook it, "Hey boy it's alright. Calm down no one is going to hurt you. That's it you are a very beautiful horse. Good boy can I pet you?"

I finally get to him and lay my hand on his cheek and slowly start petting it while whispering nice things to it. Finally I feel it relax and hear it whinny at me as it nudges me with its snout. I laugh and start petting its head as I fall in love with it.

"Well I have never seen anything like that before. I have heard stories of horses choosing their masters never have I seen it in person. Never have I seen Darkstar act so kindly to anyone before," Sabor says while getting up and dusting hay off of him.

I rub my cheek on Darkstar's cheek and say, "Sorry for tossing you but I didn't want you to get harmed and if needed be I could have stopped Darkstar by myself."

He shakes his head at me smiles and says, "I am not worried about it boy but I doubt you could have stopped him if he didn't want to stop."
