I get out of bed, Just another Monday morning. Life in the shelter has been boring to say the least. We are only with 12 people in our shelter. We have appointed one person to be the leader, so no chaos would break out. Every morning we have a roll call in the middle of our shelter, the leader tells us the latest news and any jobs we have to do for the day. I sit down on the table grab myself a piece of bread, since the apocalypse we had to be cautious with our food and water supply. We are limited to 2 meals a day: in the morning we get a piece of bread with water and in the evening some soup with water. When everyone sits down the leader starts the speech with some bad news: "We are running out of food and water, that means that we are gonna have to scavenge for resources. I tested this morning with the geiger counter and the radiation levels are safe enough to go outside for 12 hours, if you stay outside longer you will probably become mutated. So we will need 1 volunteer to scavenge, so our people can survive." As I listen to this I immediately stand up and put my hand up. I want to volunteer, I got so fed up with life in the shelter and I was seeking for adventure for a while now. The leader said: "Very well jake, meet me later in my room and ill brief you on your first mission. Everyone is dismissed for now." As i start walking to the leaders room my friend matt comes up to me and says: "Yo Jake are you sure about this man, you may not survive and then I'm all alone." I'm sorry Matt I have to do this. I'm getting sick and tired of this life in the shelter and this may be my opportunity to prove to everyone here I'm not a waste of resources. Matt walks aways silently shaking his head. As I'm knocking on the leaders door I hear him say: "Come inside jake." I go inside, he asks me if I wanna do this for sure, I give him a definite yes. So he begins telling me: "After the apocalypse the dangerous radiation levels started corrupting the brains of people, they started mutating into... things. You have to be prepared to deal with them, so we give you this plasma gun. We have 2 of them but we want to keep one of them here just in case. So how it works, it can fire one deadly bolt of plasma energy and then it has to "recharge" for 5 seconds, so use your shots wisely. Second we will give you a medpack with an adrenaline shot and some bandages just in case. I think you are ready to go." He leads me to the front entrance, while he opens the triple locked lead isolated door he says: "And Jake before you go... Be careful."
