6:50 AM

I wake up to the sound of one of my favorite songs playing. Ironically, the song is called "Sleep", and it's also the loudest song on the album it's from.

I stand up, thinking about what I'm going to wear today as I walk to my closet, making sure not to fall into the heap of clean clothes inside the door that I have yet to put away in the past month.

I grab a light blue skirt, a white tank top, a gray V-neck cardigan, my black cross necklace, and my black converse shoes out of the pile, close my closet door, and change into them.

I grab my comb and try to comb my curly hair without pulling it. I admired my white ombre, and remember the day mom and dad let me get it done.

I grab my light blue cat ear headphones and put them on, then plug them into my phone so I can listen to music while I go downstairs.

I text Matthew "Good morning" and tell him to wear his matching orange cat ear headphones. Afterwards, I send him a good morning selfie like I always do. I take the selfie and look at it. I look pretty good. Then I look at my forehead and wonder how I didn't notice this on the screen when I was taking the picture.

Now here comes my freak out. Why? Oh, just because there was a light blue butterfly-like figure on my forehead, and part of it reaching the bottom of my left eye. I hit the send button by accident, then start panicking more.

I go to the bathroom and try to wash the large mark off, but it stays there. I rush downstairs, thankful that Jacob hasn't woken up yet, and go up Mama in a panic.

"Mama! Why do I have a giant butterfly-thingie on my head? It won't come off when I wash it and I'm freaking out!"

"It's ok, Arianna. Calm down, sweetie," Mama says in a soothing voice. "I don't know what it is. I know you didn't sneak out and get a tattoo last night since you're too scared of needles-" I cringed when she said that word. "-to go out and get a tattoo, so I'm gonna drop you off at Dr. Meyers to get it checked out. Eat your breakfast and brush your teeth, then we'll go. I'm going to call the school."

I did what I was told, still panicking, trying to just let my music calm me down.

After a few minutes, my mother called me to the car. On the drive, which took about 10 minutes, I listened to music and texted Matthew. Apparently, he and Shane both had strange marks on their faces, too. But theirs were different than mine.

When we got to Dr. Meyers' office, I hugged my mother and said goodbye, and got out of the car. She drove away so she could go to work at the pharmacy.

I walked inside of the office, and in the waiting room, I saw two people I recognize from school. One of them was a boy with a purple Mohawk, whom I had come to know as Luke from my gym class. The other was a girl that I had seen before, but didn't know the name of. Each of them had a strange mark on their faces as well, but theirs were like the ones that Matt and Shane had said they had.

"Dr. Meyers isn't here right now, but she will be soon. Can you please wait in the waiting area?" The receptionist informed me.

I sat down on one of the couches in the waiting area, listening to music and trying to calm down. I couldn't text Matt since he said he's driving, so I was pretty much alone for now.
