Choking was all that could be heard.
Blackness was all that could be seen.
Ghost-like sounds could be heard, repeating in the mind of an Ampora. He could only see black, and could only be haunted by his own pain and suffering. He had failed. Again.
Alas, here he was. Sitting in the white hospital bed as he stared at the ceiling. He had IVs attached to his arm, and he was most definitely going to be put on Suicide Watch again, but it wouldn't last long. Then he would try it again. It was a cycle at this point. At the moment, he had requested that no visitors would be allowed in his room. He assumed he would only have one anyway. He sighed, bored out of his mind as he looked at the walls quietly. They had taken his scarf and his cape, leaving him to feel quite bare and plain. "Wwhy did they havve to vvisit at that moment?" He asked himself quietly, running a hand across his gills. He frowned. He hated those gills. It reminded him of his old lusus, and it reminded him of everything he had left behind in the ocean. The doctors and nurses were nice at least, but they never did tell him their names. Some were human, but most were trolls that seemed similar to his friends. He watched as the usual nurse walked in, smiling a bit and walking over to give him is medicine. She was obviously an adult, seeing how she wore older clothes and was much taller than expected. She had horns that reminded him of Latula and Terezi, but he didn't seem to care. "H3r3 1s your m3d1c1n3, 4mpor4." She had stated, slowly setting down the tray. Eridan just stared out the window, refusing to take the medicine. He sighed, his fins fluttering. "I don't wwant it. It tastes horrible and I havve been in here for a wweek already." He muttered harshly. He hated hospitals with a passion, and he hated it even more because he could do nothing now that he didn't want to allow visitors. "Som3 boy c4us3d 4 lot of troubl3 try1ng to s33 you." The doctor stated. Eridan finally looked at her name-tag. Redglare is all it said, causing him to raise an eyebrow. He didn't say anything however, which prompted the doctor to continue. "H3 s41d h1s n4m3 w4s Sollux."
Oh.
That was new.
The name seemed to catch his attention, seeing how he perked up ever so slightly. He hesitated soon afterwards. Why did he seem to be more excited as he heard the other troll's name? He took a deep breath, trying to remain stoic about the situation. "Wwell that wwas a wwaste of time." He mumbled, looking at his hands. The IV haunted him, and although he didn't break his neck it was in quite a lot of pain. He craned his neck to the side, hissing in pain. "C4r3ful." She snapped, sighing and running a hand through her hair. "4nyw4y. 1 h4v3 d3c1d3d to l3t h1m v1s1t. H3 w1ll b3 h3r3 soon."
His eyes widened as he took a deep breath. He explicitly stated that he didn't want visitors. She had no authority over this!
The troll paused, reevaluating his behaviour. He has changed, he reminded himself. He is a new person, who will NOT get mad at trivial things. "Wwhatevver." He mumbled quietly, crossing his arms after letting the doctor give him his medicine. She then left, leaving Eridan alone to his own thoughts once again. Sighing, the troll shifted slightly as he looked around the bleak room. There was nothing to indicate visitors, save for a card that had been from Cronus.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
The Ampora quickly shut his eyes, knowing that there wasn't supposed to be another doctor yet. Shit, the previous one just left. The door creaked open, indicating that someone had walked into his room.
"ED....?" A voice mumbled out weakly. It sounded horrible, cracking all over the place and sounding rather empty.
"II'm 2o 2orry..." The seadweller paused, listening to the other. He kept his eyes closed, trying his hardest to stay still and quiet.
"II... II diidn't realii2e that you meant 2o much two me and now II cant even tell you everythiing II wanted..." Eridan's heart began to speed up, causing the heart monitor to record it. Sollux however, seemed to miss that as he continued.
"II thiink II love you. II wanted two try a mate2priit2hiip maybe, but iit2 two late now.." He laughed dryly, yellow tears streaming down his face. The yellow-blood paused, lightly kissing Eridan's head. The heart monitor went out of control, and the nurses rushed in. "E%cuse me sir, but I must ask you to leave." One of them ushered Sollux out, who could only stare and cry some more.
He wasn't allowed back in until after Eridan had maintained normal levels.
The violet blooded troll sighed, knowing he would have to face the Captor. He wondered how he would react, as he had the tendency to change moods in an instant. He slowly looked over, his breath hitching as he saw the horrendous state the yellow blood was in. "Sol..?" He whispered out, unable to say anything else afterwards. His throat still did hurt, and it appeared he was slowly losing his voice.
Sollux paused, his face lighting up in happiness before it dissipated into rage. "ED you are 2uch a 2elfii2h diick!" He yelled out, narrowing his eyes. The Ampora flinched, looking at his hands as he listened to the other troll. "Fiir2t you don't even talk two me for what, 2iix month2!? Then you do thii2 2hiit and don't even allow vii2iitor2 two come and 2ee you!?" Sollux was stepping closer and closer as he narrowed his eyes more. Eridan just sighed a bit, staying silent as he took deep breaths in and out. He wished the Captor would stop yelling, but he knew that probably wouldn't be one of the possibilities. "Sol.. It's not my fault." He choked out, knowing that was most likely a lie to the other troll. "Oh really? IIt wa2nt your fault that you deciided that you diidnt want two talk two people!? IIt wa2nt your fault that you ju2t happened to attempt 2uiiciide!? You're a priick, Ampora." He hissed, growling a bit as well. "But not even that, you... You diidn't even thiink that you 2hould talk two people about iit!? What riight do you have two 2ay that no one would care for you!?" He continued to yell, not caring that the seadweller was in tears at this point. The violet tears streamed down his face as he sobbed quietly, not wanting to face Sollux. "If they say to kill yourself, then you wwill try it." He mumbled out quietly, looking down at the ground. "What the fuck do you mean by that ED!? No one told you two do thii2!" His voice was filled with pure anger at this point, and he was baring his fang-like teeth. Eridan stayed quiet, keeping his eyes down as he messed with the blanket, trying to stop crying. "Leavve." He mumbled out weakly, not looking up. "What do you mean by leave!?" The Captor stared at Eridan, backing up a bit as he heard those words. He had realised how upset he made Eridan, and he wanted to fix it, but it seemed to be too late. "I mean it. LEAVVE." His voice was raised at the end, which caused him some pain. He looked down again, holding back more tears as he listened to quiet footsteps and the sound of the door. He paused for a second before letting out all of his tears, sobbing wildly. This of course, caused his throat to burn. He hissed, cursing his cynical attitude. He thought he had changed, but it turned out he was wrong.
Eridan turned onto his side and shut his eyes, hoping everything would be over.
Sollux however, began to walk back to his hive, realising how much he had really messed up. He yelled at the poor boy, making him feel even more worse than before. The yellow blood sighed softly, tears streaming down his face as he glanced around the empty area. Deciding it was safe, he fell to his knees and began to sob once more. He sobbed for how he treated Eridan, and he sobbed for his own self. He honestly didn't know how much Eridan could take, and he felt horrible for doing so much to him. His words rang in his mind, embedding themselves into his conscious. He shouldn't have done the prank. He shouldn't have let Eridan do that.
His thoughts were only interrupted by Feferi, who was looking at him with concern. "Sollux? What's the matter?" She asked softly, lightly touching the other's arm.
She was oblivious to the situation.
Sollux hated knowing that he couldn't tell her.
