Ariana, although half asleep, could feel the sun rising in the outside world and felt the warm rays seeping through her window where they illuminated every corner of her room. Switching sides on her pillow, she counted down the few precious moments she had left lying in the comfort of her bed. How could the night have gone that fast? It seemed like an hour ago she had nearly been killed by a car.

Oh god, Ariana thought as the events prior to this morning flooded back into her brain.

How could she have forgotten them? How could she ever forget them? Or him.

Pushing these thoughts aside, Ariana decided to deal with the smaller problems first. For instance, over coming her fear of leaving her bed. Sighing heavily Ariana opened her eyelids and was instantly blinded by the white light which circulated her room. Shielding her eyes, Ariana manoeuvred her body around to face her bedside locker. The battery operated clock was flashing: 07:32.

At least she had a solid twenty minutes until Alice would be pulling away from the curb. Rubbing her head, Ariana declined the decision to shower, no one would notice her BO in the middle of April in a crowded, hot school.

Beds were the worst goodbye, and as Ariana pushed away her duvet and wriggled her toes in the cold air, she felt glum as she departed with the one thing that brought comfort.

Ariana was fully awake now, on high alert for the days tasks. Gliding over to her windows she noticed it was ajar which was odd. She did not remember it being open last night. Perhaps Alice had unlocked it this morning to let in some air. Ariana didn't deliberate on the matter and quickly combed back her curtains letting in the last of the sunlight. She could hear the heavy thuds coming from next door, signifying Jamie was up.

"Ariana! Jamie! Breakfast is on the table hurry up." Alice's voice called from downstairs.

Ariana panicked; she was still in her clothes from last night. She had not bothered to change, due to the lack of self control last night, and out of pure tiredness. Scanning the room she found a pair of clean sweats and a white cut off and speedily scampered into them. Brushing out her knots she slipped into some worn down sneakers and almost knocked into Jamie as she tied up her hair and emerged from her room into the hall.

"Careful!" Jamie hollered at her, her elbows hovering in front of his face. She secured her hair and let her hands fall.

"Shut up Jamie," Ariana said whilst rolling her eyes.

"As you wish your Highness." He muttered as he plonked down the stairs shaking his head. Ariana watched with careful eyes until her brother safely landed at the bottom of the stairs and disappeared into the kitchen.

Seizing her only chance, Ariana tiptoed backwards into Jamie's room and made a quick attempt at scanning it for illegal substances. His room was a mess; his bed unmade, books strewn carelessly aside and onto the floor, plates of forgotten pizza and cans of various drinks littered the place. Ariana hadn't noticed how disgusting it was; it looked alright last night. But, she supposed, he was probably trying to hide something now.

She stepped over what seemed to be their dinner from last week, but one could not tell from a first inspection. Ignoring the stench, Ariana scrambled over to Jamie's bedside locker. It was open and empty anti-depressant bottles scattered the hallow box. Ariana gritted her teeth and decided to retreat before Jamie realised her absence from the breakfast table. Perhaps the cocaine from last night was the only thing Jamie had.
