Chapter 12: KEATON’S POV

Sam ended up falling asleep after the second movie. I stayed awake and watch 2 more before falling asleep. I woke up way before Sam. She had falling asleep on my stomach just like the night of Tyler’s party. She was perfect in her sleep. She looks like a baby when she sleeps. She has one hand on my chest and the other hand on my back. I checked the clock. It was 5 in the morning so, I decided to go back to sleep.

Keaton’s Dream

“Sam, honey wake up, I want to bring you and Brinley to the park for the morning!” I knock on the door of Brinley’s door. “Brin, you up?” I open the door and see Brinley jumping around in her crib. “Daddy! Where me go day?” I smile and pull her out of her crib. “You, mommy and I are going to the park to play today! I have something special to tell your mommy today.” She cocks her head in confusion. “When people love each other the daddy asks the mommy to marry him and that’s what I’m going to ask mommy today. She smiles and I bring her into the hall. “But you can’t tell mommy, ok?” She puts her finger over her mouth.

“Keaton babe, can you get Brinley in the car I forgot my phone inside.” I grab Brinley and stick her in her car sit. Sam walks out and locks the house. “You ready?” She smiles and runs to the car. I turn the car on and notice we are almost out of gas. “I just have to go get some gas before we go to the park ok?” Brinley smiles and nods. “Babe do we have enough to make it to the gas station?” I check the gas meter. “Yea, we should have enough.” I smile and start backing out of the driveway. We live at the end of the street so it takes about 5 minutes to drive to town. I drive up to the intersection. I look to make sure no cars are coming when the gas light goes on. I start driving through the intersection when the car stops. Oh shit, we are out of gas. “Hun get Brinley out of the car, now!” Sam noticed and gets out to grab Brinley. I turn and hear a horn. I big 16 wheeler is coming straight for our car. “Sam! Hurry grab Brinley. I get out of the car and everything goes black.

I wake up and almost fall off the couch. Oh my gosh. Thank God that was only a dream. I realize Sam is on me and look around for her. “Sam?” She pops her head in from outside. I jump up and go and hug her. “Oh my gosh Sam. I love you so, so much.” I was going to marry Sam. I had a baby girl and was going to ask Sam to marry me. “Um I love you too babe.” She pulls away and looks at my face. “Are you ok Keats? You’re freezing.” No I’m not ok. “Yea I’m ok.” I can’t tell her yet. She will either freak out or be afraid to get in a fucking car with me. “Ok baby.” She hugs me and we sit outside for a bit. “What are you doing out here?” She continues to look out at the water. “Oh, just thinking about life.” I cock my head. “What do you mean?” She looks down. “What would you say if I asked you to move away with me? Like later in the future.” Does she mean out of Huntington? “I would ask why.” She looks up at me. “Keaton, I really love you. I don’t want to be with anyone else but you. I don’t even go home anymore. I stay with you. I want to leave with you and just be with you forever.” I understand what she means. “What about Drew and Wes and the band? What about my family and our friends? We can’t just leave them.” She stands up. “It was just a thought.” She walks inside. I think back to the dream. Did Sam have a dream as well? I would love to go live with Sam, but we are 16 and I have a family and we have friends. I can’t just leave my mom, Wes, Brooke, Breezie, Drew and the band behind to be with Sam. No matter how much I love Sam I have to think about myself as well as us. I get up and go inside to talk to Sam. I have to tell her.
