"Well school was a drag for me, what about you?" I question my best friend James as we walk toward the buses.
"Same for me, you got any homework?" He asks, knowing him he probably just wants me to text him all the answers, like I'd ever do that!
"Of course I have homework, but don't even think about asking for answers, if you want help that's a different story though." I laugh. James always knows how to make me smile. He looks offended for a moment and then moves on to the most adorable puppy face you'd ever see, his big brown doe eyes widen and he pouts his lips and looks down at me like I've just said I'm moving to China or something.
"P-p-pwease?" He baby voices. I just roll my eyes, wack the back of his head lightly, and run.
"ROMAN!" he bellows and rushes off to catch me. Considering I'm supposed to be a professional assassin, I am no good at running. Unfortunately for me, James is on the cross- country team so he catches me pretty quick and picks me up so I can't escape. I start kicking and yelling at him to put me down. "Let me think for a moment... no," He states simply before carrying me all the way to the bus.
"JAMES!" I shriek as he blocks me in a seat so I can't get away. I mentally smile at his attempts as I vault over him and rush to the back of the bus and sit with my friend Veronica, who is a little wacky at times, but hey, aren't we all?
"Hey Alice!" she laughs.
"What are you laughing at," I giggle, "There is nothing funny about having to vault over a six foot teddy-bear!"
"Hey!" says a voice in a mock offended way. Oh no he wouldn't! But of course he doesn't listen to my mental pleading and I am now sandwiched between the giant teddy-bear that is James and my supposed best girl friend who is laughing so hard I'm surprised her glasses don't come off.
"NO," I yell as the bus pulls out of the parking lot of the school, "Not you!"
"Oh yeah, you're stuck with me for the whole bus ride, get comfy Roman!" James laughs.
"Veronica," I exclaim, "Did you conspire against me with the giant sitting next to me again?"
"Only a little," she starts, but she doesn't get to finish because I'm shoving her into the middle and taking the window seat. "Hey, that's not fair!" Veronica complains.
"Hey Veronica, do you want to swich seats with me?" James asks. My eyes widen.
"Of course I would James, I would get claustrophobic in the middle of you to making goo-goo eyes at each other the whole bus ride anyways, I think I'll sit across the way with Claire, she looks lonely," and with that she abandon's me, and her comment about goo-goo eyes makes me blush slightly. James is smiling like a madman.
"What do you want now?"
"What, do I need to want something to smile at my best friend?" he asks.
"With you, yes," I laugh. He plastered a mock hurt expression on his face before continuing.
"FINE, I give up, I was just going to give you this," He holds up a box with a bow on it. I look at him confuses because we usually never give each other gifts, but after a second I gingerly take and open the box and inside is the most beautiful charm bracelet I have ever seen. The chain is silver and there are blue charms, one of which is half a heart that says friends on it. He shows me a charm on his backpack that says best on it. I almost cry, almost.
"It's beautiful," I gasp.
"Well if were gonna be best friends we had better make it official, right?" I nod, not trusting myself to open my mouth for fear I would burst out in tears of joy. Then the bus stops, and I have to get off. I give James a bear hug and slowly leave the bus.
Walking home I remember my morning fight with Iron Man and mentally prepare myself for whatever or whoever comes next, but finding the woman of legend at my old school sitting at my dining table threw me for a loop. Sitting in a wooden chair in my family's blue dining room sits the Black Widow herself, Natasha Romanoff.
