"Where's my daughter?".
"In the garden".
"What is she doing there? She's supposed to be here to meet Lord Richard Thorpe".
"She's with Lord Daniel Ives, M'Lady".
"WHAT!", she yelled.
And, as she stormed into the garden, she saw her daughter in the throes of passion. She blinked her eyes at her Mother, and gasped in shock, and covered herself as best she could...while the young Lord blushed with embarrassment at being caught in the act.
~~~
"COME WITH ME, JEZEBEL!".
"But Mother...".
"Did I not tell you not to scandalise my name?".
"Your name. I feel that you care only about you; you don't care about me!".
And Lady Delia fled the Party, and left Lord Daniel Ives to quickly dress in one of the private chambers...as the talk of the town spread across London like a wildfire.
~~~
Lady Edwina Sharpe saw everyone with a look of surprise on their faces.
"What's the matter?".
"Lady Delia was being romantic with Lord Daniel Ives in the garden". Reeves shook his head. He remained still.
"Oh, my!", she exclaimed.
"Exactly!".
"Where's the Lord?".
"In the chambers".
"Is the Party going ahead?".
"Nay, M'Lady. I will inform M'Lord that it is cancelled".
"Oh! Will there be another Ball, Reeves?".
"Aye, M'Lady. It's most unfortunate".
And he grabbed her right hand, and took her outside to the waiting carriage. He opened the passenger-side door, then let her inside.
Once the door closed, he grabbed the reigns of the horses with his hands, and drove away towards Lord Richard Thorpe's Manor.
The London fog was horrible.
Lady Edwina Sharpe arrived on time.
"Since you'll be staying M'Lady, I'll show you to your private chambers. I am indebted to you". Reeves bowed.
"Reeves, thank you for all of you've done. It's been a trying day".
"Aye, M'Lady. But I'm sure M'Lord is grateful".
"Aye, I'm tired".
"I'll send up a meal M'Lady. I fear the feast at the Hall didn't go ahead".
"I hope that next time I'll shall dance the night eve away with M'Lord".
"Aye", and he opened the mahogany double doors that led to the private chambers to the left, "...Here you go M'Lady".
"Thank you, Reeves".
And Lady Edwina Sharpe smiled.
Reeves flicked the light on.
And he bowed, and let her inside.
~~~
The room was warm.
A burning fireplace heated the chambers.
Two red colored lights illumed the middle of the room. Glass windows were shining in the darkness. Lady Edwina Sharpe gazed at the London cobbled streets.
She glided to the fire.
"M'Lady, I hope that your presence is worthy of my home".
She turned around.
Her heart skipped.
"Oh M'Lord, it's divine...".
"It is M'Lady. Divine. I was upset that such a scandal broke out. I had some delicate problems in town. And, thus, couldn't be held up".
"I hoped to see your dashing self...".
"M'Lady...never is a woman so beautiful as you".
"I...".
And he closed the chamber door.
"Now, let's eat M'Lady". His seductive voice melt Lady Edwina's heart...as she kissed him. She warmed her hands after...then they sat on the mahogany chairs...and enjoyed their first romantic dinner together.
~~~
"Why are you alone M'Lady?".
"Father is on business with Lady Delia's Father. They're Lawyers in town. Mother was a homemaker. She did pottery".
"Pottery".
"Aye! Her hands were dirty from the clay".
"Mother was a homemaker too. She was also a Leader of the London Society Cooking Clubs. Sometimes, every month, she'd oversee dances".
"Dances M'Lord".
"Aye, but the one that you went to was fraught with an incident in the garden. Reeves informed me". Reeves knocked on the door.
"ENTER!".
"Steak, potatoes, onions, carrots, and beans. And red wine".
Reeves served the dinner in two clean plates.
Then he used white gloves on both hands, then he poured the wine in two clean glasses. Then he bowed.
"Enjoy M'Lord. M'Lady!", he then opened the doors...and closed it behind them.
"TO LONDON!", Lord Richard Thorpe yelled, as he clanked the glasses.
"TO LONDON!', Lady Edwina Sharpe also did the same...as she smiled.
~~~
Lord Daniel stared at the mirror.
He didn't want to hide.
He acted out of desire.
It wasn't his fault.
He saw a Lady in distress. And he acted.
It was an honorable thing.
And he meant to just speak with Lady Delia.
But, in the garden, his desire overcame his noble heart. That was his theory. He did a good dead; he did it to honor England.
Lady Delia was crying...and he helped out.
He was a hero; he wasn't a cad.
He did what was right!
And, if he was destroyed in the London Society Pages, then so be it.
He ate his dinner in his room...and wondered whether he would see Lady Delia again. She was lost now.
He sighed, and ate his Irish stew in silence...as he sipped Red Wine from the glass...and vowed to rescue his beloved from her evil Mother.
~~~
Lady Edwina slept by the fireplace.
"Good night M'Lady". Lord Richard Thorpe placed a brown colored blanket over her body. He didn't want to make a scene.
And he blew out the candles, and headed to his private chambers...and went to bed as well.
