CLARA

My spirits rose with the sun the following morning and I decided to go for a walk again. I wondered whether the promenade would look much different in the daylight. After quickly showering and double checking I had my purse in my bag this time I headed out. Soon, I came across a shopping centre and remembered I had an outfit voucher which expired soon. Once I had tried a few things on, I decided to get a dark blue shirt with thin, flowing fabric. It was £30, a bit over the voucher budget of £25, but I decided to treat myself; I hadn't bought any new clothes in a while.

I continued to shop for while, managing to visit a few of my favourite shops before stopping off at a Shakeaway. I ordered a mint chocolate milkshake and strolled through the streets, sipping on the refreshing drink.

When I reached the beach I slipped off my boots and socks and allowed my toes to sink into the light sand. The gentle waves lapped over my feet and around my ankles and for the first time in ages I felt at peace with myself. The serene feel of the chilling water sent shivers through my legs. Looking out, I could see boats harboured just off the shore and felt them sway on the waves. I closed my eyes tight shut and all of a sudden on one of the little fishing boats. The land had vanished and as far as I could see around me the water stretched on forever. Over the wooden edge of the boat, glimpses of sparkling fish glinted in the sunlight. The shoal danced amongst each other like an alive disco ball. Suddenly, the fish vanished and a dark ominous shape loomed up the depths. An enormous jolt of the boat caused me to lose balance and I was thrown into the salty sea, now stormy and monstrous.

When I re-opened my eyes my vision was blurred and my head pounded. I was struggling for breath. When I tried to walk my feet felt like iron boots and I stumbled in the shallow waters. My head was suffering a thousand beatings per second. Unable to hold myself up, I fell into the waves which immediately soaked my clothes and froze my body. Choking on my breath, I desperately tried to inhale more oxygen but my throat was blocked by some invisible force. I attempted to crawl through the soft sand but the retreating tides made my hands and knees sink into the floor.

Out of nowhere, a massive wave splashed across my face and I gasped from the chill and collapsed in the lapping waves that drew up around my body. Luckily, it was shallow enough that I was able to keep my head above the water but the tide was gaining height and I was losing consciousness. Oh god. I was going to die. I managed to utter a single, breathless word before the world blackened around me:

"Doctor..."
