You look around your new room shifting slightly. "What's wrong cousin? Don't like your room?" A voice makes you look back at Kid.
"I like it... It looks cozy..." You murmur looking down. He shifts rubbing his neck.
"We can change it up once you get settled in... I'm gonna get some pizza." He touches your shoulder before going out. You unpack slowly lost in your own thoughts. You were moving in with your cousin since your parents got into a car accident and mysteriously vanished. It's been a few months since the accident so the police and detectives were certain they were dead. Or just not coming back. By now you had stopped believing they were alive as well.
You sigh heavily looking blankly at the bed. You felt as if you were all alone since you started believing that. The days were becoming longer and the nights seem to last forever. The old hobby that used to help you through the darkest days just made you feel empty. You cast a glance at the journals you had stacked on the desk. Six of them, each holding an unfinished story. You used to have alot more, but they all went to storage and you kept the six that you had high hopes for.
You lay down and close your eyes. So boring, maybe that's why they left. You groan and curse that painful thought, rolling to your side. After some time you hear a knock on the front door. With a sigh you get up and go to answer the door.
You open it and you and the teenager both freeze. He shifts mossy green eyes flashing, tan skin long crazy blond hair and a medical mask. He was a bit intimidating but the mask worried you.
"Are you okay? Do you need medicine?" You ask. He blinks in surprise and chuckles.
"You must be ___, Kid said you were coming today... I'm Killer, I came to help you arrange your room if you want to." He offers his hand for a handshake. You blink and blush lightly in embarrassment.
"Nice to meet you... So you're not sick?" You ask carefully.
"No, I just like to cover my face..." He admits rather sheepishly. You smile briefly.
"Alright then... Kid went to get pizza so he should be back soon. Come in." You move out of the way. He nods and goes past.
"So do you like the room? I tried to clean it up as much as I could before you came." He tells you.
"You did? I like it, so thank you." You murmur.
"No problem, his definition of a clean room borders the chaotic room mess." He chuckles, earning a giggle from you.
"He was always like that when we were kids... Called me a clean freak whenever he visited and saw my room." You breathe thoughtfully. He chuckles again taking a seat on the couch.
"He does that to me now." He muses. You giggle thoughtfully.
"Can I get you anything Killer?" You inquire.
"I'm fine for now." He waved dismissively.
"Hey cuz! I brought pizza... And found you a phone." Kid calls coming in.
"I'm in the living room with Killer." You tell him. He blinks at his friend as he comes in.
"Hey Kid." Killer waves. Kid gives a nod and sets the pizza down, handing you a flip phone.
"I found it on the way back. Still looks new, and I think it's a prepay phone, so maybe you can use it." He shrugs as you blink at it.
"Thanks Kid." You set it to the side, wiping off the ash that was on it.
"No problem, let's eat." He rumbles plopping down beside you. "How did she greet you?" He asks Killer.
"Asked if I was okay and if I needed medicine... It was really sweet." Killer chuckles.
"Told ya she's fearless." Kid boasts with a grin.
"I have to be to survive you." You comment. He chuckles nudging you with his elbow. You smile a bit focusing on your piece of pizza.
After eating you go up to your room and search for a charger for the new phone. You pause as you go through your bag, finding an old photo of you and your family. You feel a familiar pain building up in your chest.
"Looking for a phone charger?" Killer asks at the doorway. You jump slightly and look back. "Kid said this one matched it." He adds holding up a cord.
"Oh thanks." You murmur taking the cord.
"You okay?" He asks peering at the photo.
"Yeah... Still hits me sometimes." You shrug. He shifts leaning on the door frame.
"Listen, Kid's gonna be working tomorrow, and I was wondering if I could show you around and introduce you to some friends." He rubs his neck. You blink and rub your cheek.
"S-sure, sounds like fun.." You murmur blushing slightly.
"Good, I'll see at ten... Unless you like to sleep in later." He hums.
"No, ten is fine... I don't really sleep anymore anyway." You shrug. He touches your upper arm in a comforting manner.
"Well hopefully living here will help with that. See you in the morning." He pulls away and waves before disappearing down the hall. You smile a bit, closing the door before going over and plugging in the phone. You roll onto the bed falling into a shallow sleep.
You blink up at the ceiling blankly, what time was it?" You ponder looking over and picking up the phone. You open it, coughing slightly when some ash gets on your face. You give an annoyed sigh wiping off the inside before checking the charge. Eighty percent. You frown, surely it's been charging for more than an hour.
You sigh again and turn on the phone. Being greeted by a rather plain background. But several voicemails from the same number. You tilt your head. They were all from earlier this week. Was someone looking for the phone? You chew at your lip deciding to check the voicemails.
When you play the oldest one, your ear is greeted by a voice as smooth as silk and as rich as dark chocolate.
'Hey.... Are you there? Please answer.... We searched your area, there's ash piles everywhere. Did you get ambushed? Don't worry. We'll find you. Just... Just hang on...'
