Virginia Quarry was barely ever allowed outside of her house.
"All women are pests, men are more suited for tasks." The townsfolk would tell her.
Even her little brother, Oliver, who was two years younger than her, was allowed free-roam of the city. But Virginia? She was told she was a waste of time.
That is why, when King Nathan offered her a position as spy, she jumped on the offer. She would always tell herself that she would change the way people looked at women. She hated being looked down upon by her peers.
"Why would the king listen to you? You're merely a woman." The people would tell her.
She balled her fists and punched the walls every night. They seemed like prison cells, towering over her and keeping her from the outside world. She would peer outside of her window at all of the people talking and enjoying themselves, she wanted to be them. She felt no respect.
That is why she chose life as the Dark Messenger.
It was true, being a spy was a serious offense toward a village. The danger of being caught and punished was all-too high. All the more reason Virginia chose this path. She wanted to prove that women are useful.
Virginia Quarry would prove the world wrong.
Even if death was the final punishment.
However, many did not know who Virginia truely was.
Sure she had dreams of freedom, but many people were kept away from Virginia's true self.
Her true form.
Her secret.
Virginia Quarry was not like the others.
Far from it really.
Virginia was an Arcane.
Very, very little is known about Acanes.
Even the great philosopher, Aristotle, never recorded anything that had to do with Arcanes.
But they're real alright.
Maybe even a little closer than imagined.
Arcanes have large, feathery, black wings and a language of their own.
This language is what we know today as Italian, but at this time, nobody but Arcanes knew of Italian.
Arcanes are mysterious.
Arcanes are creatures.
Arcanes are known of the nighttime.
Arcanes are powerful.
Virginia wants to make that statement known to more than just a few.
Virgina is determined.
Virginia is creative.
