Now the girls were sat at the regular doctor, waiting to be called in. Camila sat beside Lauren, one big, giant movement. If her legs weren't moving, her arms were. If her toes weren't moving, her fingers were. She was not excited to be poked and prodded and that's all this appointment would be. "Jauregui?" A nurse called. Both girls stood up. "Room 6." They walked down the hall and into the designated room. Lauren lifted Camila up and onto the table before taking her seat where the parent usually sits. Soon enough, the doctor walked into the room and said hello, reading over Camila's file. Camila actually didn't mind Dr. Kaswick all that much. She just didn't like what she had to do to her. "Okay, Camila," Dr. Kaswick said. "How ya doing?" "I'm okay." "Yeah? Everything okay this past week?" Camila nodded and Lauren spoke up. "She had a fever a few times and I gave her the medicine for each." "Nothing else?" Lauren shook her head. "Alright. Camila, lay down for me, sweetie." Camila tried to prepare herself but she couldn't . She just didn't like it and her brain reacted accordingly. The doctor pulled up Camila's shirt and started pressing on her stomach. It was when she started inspecting her throat that things went sour. "No. No, no, no." Camila began screaming. She thrashed her limbs and her mind was in such a deep state of panic that she couldn't even feel the aching in her muscles. "No more! No more!" Lauren stood up and rushed to Camila's side. "Camila, listen to me." Her chest was heaving and she continued kicking and flatling. She tried to push Lauren away, shoving her back but Lauren stood firm. "Hey, don't push me, Camila." Lauren commanded. She bent down low so she was in Camila's face; so Lauren was the only thing Camila focused on. "Stop kicking. You're safe, Munchkin, do you hear me? You're okay. No one's hurting you. Look at me." Lauren took Camila's face in her hands and forced them to lock eyes. "You're okay. Breathe, Karla, tome una respiracion profunda." Speaking in two different languages while Camila was panicking forced her brain to focus on what was being said instead of freaking out. Without breaking eye contact they both took a deep breath and Camila's legs and arms went back down. "There we go." Lauren sighed. "No more of that, baby, she's not gonna hurt you." "Will, will, will you lay up, up here with, with, with, with me?" Camila stuttered. Lauren let go of her face and climbed over her to lay down against the wall. She held Camila's hand, her thumb rubbing circles, and said, "Keep going, doctor." Dr. Kaswick gave a smile and continued on with her examination. Camila was shaking but she wasn't absolutely freaking out so that was a start. Once she was done, she allowed Camila to sit up and said, "We have to go take some x-rays now." Camila nodded, not fully understanding what 'x-ray' meant. It was only when she was taken to another room and told that she'd have to go inside of that ginormous, terrifying machine that she started to panic. "No. No, Lolo, no!" Camila hid herself as best she could in Lauren. Lauren was used to this. She was used to having to calm Camila down but that didn't mean it didn't break her heart every single time this happened. Lauren picked Camila's head off her shoulder and made Camila look her in the eye. "You don't think about that machine, okay? You think about me and Dinah and Lukey and Sofi." Camila nodded, eyes wide and worried. She let herself be laid down on another table as Lauren went behind the wall. She watched her wife through the little window, praying that she'd stay calm. Thankfully the x-rays were taken without incident and the doctor told them there was no change with Camila's illness, so they were free to leave. "You did great today, baby," Lauren said, kissing the back of Camila's hand. It didn't go as well as it could've but you had to acknowledge the little wins. Much to Camila's pleasure, they were now on their way to Dinah's. "And now we go see Lukey!" "That's right, Munchkin."
