Sorry, guys! I had to reupdate the chapter because I think Wattpad glitched out on me and only published half of the chapter!
Rin's POV
As if the tension in the room wasn't already at an all-time high, someone sharply rapped on the front door, causing several of us to jump in shock. I instantly approached it, gently easing the door open. I was greeted by a gun barrel to my forehead. My muscles locked into place as I stared into the hazel eyes that were laced with nothing but hatred and blood-lust.
Well fuck. If this bastard thinks I'm going to die here, like I never even existed, then he's got another thing coming. As though it were second nature, my flames consumed his hand, not to harm the man, but to make him flinch and release his grip on the pistol. Achieving the desired outcome, I grasped the weapon in my left hand and used my right to manipulate the azure blazes. I heard the click of a gun being me, indicating that (y/n) was behind me and holding her own firearm at the ready, awaiting my word to blow the guy's brains out.
The man glared, and I was finally able to analyze him throughly. His ebony coloured hair was a bizarre disaster that seemed impossible to tame whilst his amber eyes were alit with a rebellious attitude that very much reflected my own personality. Judging by his manner of dress, I'd vouch that he was an exorcist, one that loyally served the Vatican. My exposed tail flicked from side to side, expressing my suspicion about him and what his intentions were.
"Why is the Vatican after me again?!" I demanded venomously. He scowled at the mention of the group, as if he'd dreaded every moment since the day he joined that dastardly group. Something about the way he glared at me felt far too familiar.
"Oh, you'd better believe that they're hunting you down. The new scheme our current leader is planning is utter hell to everyone, and you're needed to initiate it. So I came here to kill you and your brother, ridding the heritage of Satan and preventing Assiah from becoming the renewed Gehenna. However-" a deafening sound rang out in my right ear as (y/n) pulled the trigger back, a silver bullet finding a home in his right shoulder, encouraging a shrill scream of agony to leak from his throat as he fell back onto the wooden porch. She grabbed the ivory cloak he was wearing and pulled the injured man to his feet, her eyes ablaze with hatred and rage.
"Tell me your name," she growled in a tone of voice I rarely hear, which are the times when she's as pissed as she could be. When the man clenched his mouth shut and denied her an answer, (y/n) slammed him to the ground whilst the man emitted an sharp yelp of pain due to the silver projectile that was still embedded in his shoulder, "I'll ask one last time. What is your name?!"
The amber orbs trailed to her left hand that was wrapped around the pistol that was currently a twitch away from blowing a hole through his brain and ending his life. Then his eyes found his way to my own hand, and widened as a certain realization struck him, "Makoto Adachi. I didn't realize that you were married, Okumura."
Oh, shit. Not this asshole.
(Y/n) showed several different emotions at once, the one most apparent was embarrassment. Whenever we'd go somewhere and people would notice us being all lovey-dovey, they'd see the rings that bound us together, and they'd instantly assume that we were married already. I'm unsure why (y/n)'s face would always go scarlet whenever the topic came up, as it was at the moment.
"Sh-shut up! Why are you trying to kill Rin?!"
"Relax, lady. If I'd known he'd scored a pretty girl such as yourself, the thought wouldn't have crossed my mind," he coaxed, for his life was on line. (Y/n) stumbled away from him, bewilderment evident in her (e/c) irises and she connected them with my sapphire ones that reflected the same confusion. That's his reason for not killing me? Like I said, an asshole.
"What I said was true," Makoto stood up cautiously on his feet, clutching his bullet wound tightly as he clung onto the railing for the support that no one offered him, "The Vatican needs you for some crazy experiment. Something about Assiah and Gehenna becoming one or something."
I couldn't help but intake a sharp breath. This doesn't sound like something the Vatican would've planned, but my wretched father. This is exactly what he was trying to do when Ernst used me to open the Gehenna gate, using that advantage to possess Yukio and attempt to combine Assiah and Gehenna.
"That's not all," he muttered, causing me to look back up, the question obvious on my features, "There's been some kind of assault on the main building by a group that called themselves Anonymous. Their leader is known as Equinox, and he's targeting you. Watch yourself, Okumura," Makoto started limping away before suddenly letting out a whine and falling to his knees.
Shiemi practically shoved me aside to get to his aid. (Y/n) gazed at me, horrified at the idea that I was being targeted by so many people at once. Of course I didn't like it either, but I don't want her to get involved. After a brief, tense moment of nothing but silence, I basically pounced on her and embraced her tightly, afraid to let any harm come to her. I don't care what happens to me, I just don't want to her to get hurt.
