I sit there in my final class of the year. Band/Music. Mrs. Miller and is cleaning her desk so I decide to go and help.

"Hey Mrs. M." I say walking into her office.

"Hey Kris." She says smiling.

"Need any help?"

"Help would be great, do you think you could pick up the sheet music?" She asks.

"Of course." I say walking over to the sheet music. It is a MESS.

"So I hear you are going to be trying out for the X Factor." Mr. Miller says.

"Well I'm not sure. I know Niall is, but I don't think I am."

"Well, why not?" She asks putting her hands on her hips.

"I don't know, I guess singing is just not for me." And cue Mr. Miller (The choir teacher and Mrs. Miller's husband.) They share an office.

"What do you mean singing is not for you!?" he asks astonished. "I knew you could sing before I knew you were born!"

"That makes no sense Mr. Harm." I say we call him Mr. Harm because he is always harping on us to get the harmony correct. (Instrument pun intended).

"It makes perfect sense, Mouse." He says Mrs. Miller nudging him with her elbow. "Sorry I forgot we are at school. Miss Creek."

"I still go get it. How did you know I could sing before I was born?" I ask laughing.

"Here sort these." He says handing me a box of CDs. I start to look through them making sure all the CDs are in their cases. "I knew your mother before she was dating your dad."

"And I lived next door to your father when we were kids." Mrs. Miller says

"Really? I thought you guys meat in UNI when you were studding music." I say. "Remember they were the ones getting into all the trouble with the drugs and beer."

"Honey, your parents were wonderful people. They just got into bad things." Mrs. Miller says.

"I know but they never kicked their bad things." I say

"They were good parents and they loved you." Mr. Miller says.

"Mr. Harm you don't have to lecture me on that, I love them but I still think they could have been better to you." I say.

"I hope we are good parents." Mrs. Miller says looking down at her 6month old baby bump. She is zoning. She does this because she is nervous about being a mother.

"I mean they dropped me off like every other day and I recall you guys were the ones making my birthday plans and putting me in school and making sure I was not alone and coming over when they left me alone and feeding me. You guys are going to be great parents you already did it once and this time it will be your own kid." I say

"We could have done so much more for you. Made sure you were safe and--" Mrs. Miller starts.

"Mrs. M, I was not your kid. It was not your responsibility. The things that happened to me, they were my parents' and my own fault. You guys made it so much better." I say "And just think of me as your test run."

"Thanks Mouse." Mrs. Miller says "Kris. Sorry."

"No it's ok." I say smiling as she hugs me.

"Ok so what is this about you not being a singer?" Mr. Miller asks.

"I don't know." I say shrugging. "Niall is trying out for this singing thing and he wants me to but I don't think I stand a chance."

"Kris. You out sang the whole choir, just singing in the shower. You sang at our wedding, you sing in the car all the time and it sounds better than the radio, you sing to the kids you babysit, heck you sing your homework!" Mr. Miller says
