I waited a couple of minutes to regain myself before I chose to return. I didn't know if I was quite ready to face the new laughter below me, but I knew that my parents would think that something was up if I didn't go down soon.
"Sweetie, Robin was just telling us that he owns the diner down the street. He said there's a spot open as a waitress", my mother smiled at me, encouraging me to speak up.
"It's yours if you want it", Robin says.
"Uhm, yeah, sure. That's great, thanks", I look down, focusing on cutting my chicken.
"He's liable to raise your pay with an ass like yours", Harry spoke up, shoving a massive bite of sauce-doused pasta in his mouth, smirking at me as a gasp left my lips. I looked to my father to see his facial expression, but I was left surprised when I saw him chuckling to himself.
"Harold Edward. When we said to be polite, that included watching your language", his mom scolded him from across the table.
"Pardon me, with a donkey like yours", Quinn and Tyler snickered, Quinn choking on his food at Harry's smug statement. I could tell this was going to be a long dinner.

"Harry seems like a nice kid", my mom spoke up while she handed me a plate to dry.
"Yeah, he's alright", I said, but I couldn't seem to forget what he said at his locker today. Not to mention what happened upstairs.
"Evelyn, honey, what's wrong? You seem so distant and quiet? You know you can talk to me about anything", and that's when I snapped.
"Fine, Mom, you want to know what's wrong with me? I just moved all the way across the map, leaving my entire life behind in a place I've spent my whole existence in. You know, I'll admit it. I had a pretty shitty first day of school today", my mother gasped at my choice of language as my father snapped his head up from his laptop, ready to correct me; however, I cut him off before he had the chance.
"And yeah, I ate outside, by myself, as I worked on my very first assignment. But Mom, I don't have anyone. At least Tyler and Quinn have each other to help each other adapt to their new lives. They already have friends, they already fit in. They're not the ones who have to worry about not fitting in, I'm the one out of place, here. I don't see how you can't understand that", with that being said, I put down the plate in fear of it shattering in my bare hands, and ran up to my very new, very foreign room.
"You're not out of place, young lady, you're out of line!", my father yelled at my back. Many shouts of my name were being called behind me, but I ignored them. Tyler could help her finish the damn dishes. Wait though, maybe his second dessert of the night is just too good.
I quickly changed out of my dinner attire into a t shirt and sweatpants before sitting on my bed and logging into Facebook on my laptop. I decided messaging my friend, Riley, from back home to let her know I missed her. She was probably in school, but she'd see it later. In the middle of my typing, an irritated looking Quinn barged into my room.
"You really hurt Mom's feelings down there, just to let you know. She's going on and on about how she and dad should've asked-"
"Damn it, Quinn, I don't care! Yeah, maybe she should've asked how we feel about leaving everything behind!", I yelled. My breath was getting heavy and my hands were forming fists where they may either side of me on my mattress.
"Tyler and I adjusted just fine! What's your problem Evelyn?", Quinn's voice was now rising and he seemed to be growing more frustrated with me by the second.
Good.
"I'm going to tell you exactly what I told Mom. You guys both have each other. I have nobody to lean on for support. If you guys think I'm just going to waltz back in there and apologize for something I have a right to say, you're all wrong", I could practically feel the vain straining in my neck. I was already so tired of trying to hide my feelings of my new life, and it was only the first day.
"You know, Evelyn, maybe you should stop being such a heartless bitch and realize how important this opportunity is to Mom and Dad. Drop the whole I hate my life and everyone in it because, I'm treated so terribly act. You had a rough day, I get that. But seriously, you act like no one here loves you, it's getting old. Quit being a brat and open your fucking eyes", his words caused tears to prick up at my eyes, but I pushed them back.
"Get out", I whispered.
"What?"
"I said, get out of my room!", the finger I pointed in the direction of my door caused Quinn's eyes to widen in shock, jaw dropping as he had a moment of shock. He quickly recovered himself though, as he stood begrudgingly on my cold floor.
"No, I- fine, whatever. Fuck you too", and just like that, he was on his way back down the stairs before I could throw a profanity right back in his direction. So I took my last option to satisfy my need to throw it back, and childishly threw two middle fingers toward the door.
This could possibly be one of the worst nights in my entire life. Mom and I never fight. And I especially don't fight with Quinn. I love him too much for that. What have I done?
Tears streamed down my face as I walked out onto my balcony, closing the door behind me, and sat on one of the chairs that must've been left behind by the people who lived here before us. I looked out over the railing to see that a balcony was sitting directly across from mine, and I realized that, that must've been Harry's house.
"I must say, that was a pretty heated argument in there, huh?", it was only then that I saw the figure sitting at their own table on the opposite balcony. He turned his light on, displaying him and his surroundings.
"What do you want, Harry?", I sniffled.
"New neighbors, you and Quinn tend to be pretty loud", I scoffed as he continued to be his arrogant, cocky self.
"Did you just come out here to insult me?"
"Actually, I was out here first, so let's rephrase that, shall we? Evelyn, did you just come out here to annoy the hell out of me?"
Typical man, I thought to myself. Always having to run their mouths about something.
"Screw off", I muttered, not thinking he would hear.
I jumped in my seat as he threw something over my railing, causing my motion-sensed light to illuminate. I picked up the object laying by my feet, discovering a Hershey's chocolate bar.
"What?", I asked, slightly confused.
"You seem like you need it", he smirked at his false accusation. I furrowed my eyebrows as I saw all of the wrappers laying on the table, watching him reach for another. They were only the little snack-sized candies, but it's a wonder the boy doesn't have diabetes yet.
"Why do you have so many?", I wondered aloud.
"Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures. Are you going to tell me what's wrong with you?", he asked, looking down at his chocolaty task.
"You don't need to be my friend, nor do you want to be. I don't need to tell you anything", I could feel the tears coming as I said the words, so I got up and left after gently tossing the candy back over to his side.
I decided I would apologize to both Mom and Quinn when I woke up, letting sleep overtake me.
