One year later.
"This is really silly, mom. You didn't need to do this." Emma said as she watched her mother run around the living room.
"Nonsense, Emma! Baby showers are quite popular in this modern age." Mary Margaret finished hanging the pink banner. "I wasn't there to give you one before." She added softly.
"Mom, they wouldn't have allowed it in jail anyways." Emma joked.
"Emma," Mary Margaret frowned.
"Sorry, that was a bit inappropriate wasn't it?" Emma smiled innocently as she rubbed her round baby bump.
"Just a tad," Neal said as he entered the room.
"What are you doing here?" Emma asked. She thought this was a girl thing. Surely Neal didn't want to partake in this.
"You didn't think I'd let you do this alone, did you?" He grinned at her.
He came by her side and placed a kiss on her temple.
"Thanks," she smiled at him.
"Neal, great I could use your help." Mary Margaret said as she motioned him over.
It wasn't long before decorating quickly became his job as Mary Margaret gave him instructions.
Emma chuckled as he ran around trying to get everything as perfect as her mother wanted it. She took a seat in the armchair.
"Oh baby, you have some crazy people in your family. Don't worry we all love you though and they'd do anything to keep you safe." Emma whispered to her stomach.
She was 8 months pregnant and she and Neal were expecting a little girl. Henry was ecstatic about being a big brother. Mary Margaret was very helpful throughout her entire pregnancy. Sometimes a bit too helpful. Emma constantly had to remind herself that she had to share in this experience. She might have been carrying the child, but her mother didn't get to enjoy her pregnancy either with Regina's threat always in the back of her mind.
David and Henry entered the room to give Neal a hand. He looked grateful for the help. Who knew preparing for a baby shower could be so tiresome?
An hour later and everything was all set. The place looked like someone threw up and covered the room in baby pink glitter, but they somehow managed to make it look adorable.
"It's beautiful," Emma hugged her mother.
Mary Margaret wiped away a tear as she rubbed her daughter's back.
David, Henry and Neal headed outside as the guests began to arrive.
"So much for sticking this out with me," Emma thought as she watched Neal leave.
Granny, Ruby, Regina, Mulan, Blue, Belle, and Cinderella were in attendance. They each brought a gift or two and participated in the silly games Mary Margaret had on the agenda. Overall, it was a success. Emma thought she'd shy away from the attention, but these were her friends and family. Her heart was overwhelmed with the love she felt in that room and it was no surprise that a tear or two escaped her that evening.
The guests had gone and it had come time for Neal and Emma to leave too.
She had moved into his place and Henry stayed over every weekend.
"Drive safe," Mary Margaret waved goodbye to the couple.
"Or else," David added jokingly.
"Bye guys," Emma waved back.
"So how was it?" Neal asked as he held the car door open.
"Not bad actually, I didn't even need you there."
"Ouch," Neal clutched his chest dramatically.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it. You deserve it, Emma." Neal said seriously.
"Yeah..." she said as she laced her fingers with his.
With his other hand, he drove them home.
_
When Neal left the bathroom after his shower, he didn't find Emma waiting for him in their bedroom. He walked across the hall to find her in the nursery. She spent a lot of time there.
"Hey," Neal said as he wrapped his hands around her.
"Hey yourself," Emma whispered as she traced the edge of the crib. Her mother had brought it over months ago. It was her crib that she never got to use. Mr. Gold even gave her the mobile from his shop.
"I can't wait 'til she's here." Neal said as he placed one hand on Emma's belly.
"You're telling me," Emma laughed.
Neal turned her around in his arms so that she was facing him. Emma smiled as she wrapped her hands around him; as much as her bump would allow.
"Emma?"
"Yes, Neal?"
"I love you and nothing will ever change that." He said as he kissed her.
Emma moved her hands upwards to cup the side of his face as she returned the kiss.
"I love you too, Neal Cassidy."
