My Crazy Neighbor

As I walked out of my apartment, I heard a noise from the apartment next to mine.  There were always random noises and such, but the door was opaque and there was no way of looking through the windows.  I had always wanted to know what was happening in there, but could never get the guts to go in.  As I started to walk past, I kept thinking about who and what was behind that door, so I finally succumbed to my thoughts and knocked on the door.  It was a brazen move and I tried not to second guess myself.

The door opened and a guy about my age poked his head out. "Hello?"

          I waved. "Hi."

"What do you want?" He asked militantly.

"I heard something, and I wanted to know if you were okay."

"I'm fine." He paused, internally debating with himself. "Would you like to come in?" He muttered.

         "Sure."

As I walked in, the room looked as if it had been annihilated. I could hear Twenty One Pilots playing softly in the background and on the counter there was a fish bowl with stagnant water.  There were a few arbitrary things laying on the floor.  Food containers were left on the floor, dust, and school textbooks littered the floor.  All in all, the room was put together in a slapdash way.

We prattled on for a bit before he said that he was hungry.  The whole time, I wanted to reprimand him for the messy room.  I definitely rebutted the messy apartment, but it was no use.

When he came out of the kitchen, I noticed that there was no food with him.  I gave him a questioning look and he smirked.

          "What?" I asked.

He pulled a butcher knife from behind his back and I could feel my face pale.  He walked closer and I backed up until my back hit the wall.  He walked up and said the last words I'll ever hear.

          "Goodbye Xavier." He whispered.

After that, a searing pain ripped through me and my world faded into black.

         My last thought was this:

                           My neighbor really was crazy
