Alice
It's been about two weeks from the first time I met Darius and Gabriel. I'm starting to get used to their routines, they get up about the same time at night and go off to "work". I get up with them sometimes and clean up around the dorm, it stays pretty tidy since their usually gone or asleep. I just chill in the living area and read books Gabriel brings me from the bookstore here on campus. I haven't started any classes yet, or even know what to do around here.
Me and Darius have gone clothes shopping a bit for me, but I just picked out some flannels, skinny jeans, and t-shirts. Darius wears a similar style, and I figure out that his music is pretty great, it's relaxing to listen to and Darius calls it "relatable" sometimes.I stepped out of the shower and got dressed quickly. I brushed my teeth thoroughly and put some perfume on. I went out and started a pot of coffee for all of us to enjoy this evening. I was the first one up today, score one for me, Gabe is usually the first one up. I grabbed some pop tarts from the tallest cabinet on my tip toes. I'm so short compared to them, Darius is about six-three and Gabe is only a few inches taller than him. I'm stuck over here at five-three, I'm so short.
Gabe walked into the kitchen area yawning, he walked over to the coffee pot and was a little surprised that is was running before he was in here. "I win this time."
"Yeah, I guess you do." He smiled and grabbed an apple from the bowl in the middle of the bar. "Going out tonight? You're dressed pretty casual for going in to the infirmary." He looked down at his clothes. He was wearing a button up t-shirt, with his sleeves folded up just a bit, and some jeans that were dark. "Yeah, actually I'm going out with Megan tonight."
"Have fun, it seems like you guys really hit it off after the first date."
"Yeah, she's really sweet and we like a lot of the same things, but my only concern is that she's human." He took a bite out of his apple and sat in a chair at the bar, so I made way next to him and sat. "Hey don't worry about that. This is someone you actually like and can relate to, I think you guys would be perfect for each other."
"Really?" He looked at me with a worried expression. "Totally! I mean, look at you, your the whole package! You have the looks and the sweetest personality. She looks like a goddess and the way you talk about her tells me that she's really nice. So, that makes a perfect match!" He got a huge smile on his face. "You're awesome, you always know what to say." I took a bite out of my pop tart and got up and grabbed three cups of coffee. "Thank you."
A few minutes later Darius trudged in and sat at the bar, "Good morning guys." I chuckled a bit, "It's nighttime." He grabbed the cup of coffee I placed in front of him and took a sip. "It's morning for me." Me and Gabe laughed and continued to drink our coffee.
Darius woke up a little more after a few minutes, "Oh, hey Alice."
"Yeah?"
"I got the request approved by the boss for you to start training tomorrow." I had a confused look on my face, so he spoke up again. "You're gonna be a guardian." Gabe had a shocked expression on his face and I just sat there in silence. What the hell just happened? I was having a great conversation on Gabe's relationship with Megan and now I'm getting put into the guardian program. "What team is she getting put in?" Gabe asked immediately, but it felt like it took him forever to speak up. "Alpha."
"I concede, she can have my win." Gabe looked at me, "I won't fight her."
"Fine, but me and Markus are going to." Darius took another drink of coffee after smiling. I met Markus once, but only for a second, he left his badge on the bar and had to come back and get it. So I let him in so he could get it, but I told him I was Darius and Gabe's maid. I don't think he believed me though, he kind of laughed. "So what, exactly, am I supposed to do?"
"You have to fight me and Markus, but you only have to win against one of us since Gabe gave you that win." I was still a little puzzled but I got the gist of it. "Alice." I looked up to him, I guess I spaced out. "Yes?"
"Your the fist girl to be put up as an Alpha guardian. The others will talk trash, don't listen to them. The only person you have to listen to is me." He looked straight into my eyes, which made me blush a little. "Okay, I understand." Gabe patted me on the back which made me jump a bit. "Don't worry Alice, you'll be just fine."
"I hope." I said giving a faint smile. But that quickly faded, I feel like I don't stand a chance against Markus, or especially Darius. Knowing that me and Darius had the same type of element didn't help much either. He's been in the program longer and I saw what he could do to Apollyon. "How do I prepare for it?"
"You can't ." Gabe put down his coffee cup and looked down at it. "It's a street battle, there's no rules. You can either win, lose, or die." My heart started racing at the word die. They can't really be serious, but they don't play around with the guardian stuff. "I'm actually excited to see what you can do." I looked up at Darius and he was taking another sip. "You put on a little innocent, teen show, but I want to see what kind of power you're hiding from us. You do have a contract with darkness, that already takes a lot of strength." He looks as if he's talking smack to a stranger on his patrols. He had a smirk on his face, one I've never seen before, well, directly to me that is.
"You know what." I started shaking , trying to force the words out of my mouth. "I'm ready, bring it on Darius." I copied the same smirk he had, but he just let out a little chuckle. "We'll see about that."
