Darius
The moonlight started to flood through my window, it was time for my shift. I couldn't get much sleep, the meeting ruined my desire for any type of rest. I looked at my phone, wincing at the brightness from the screen. My eyes still hurt from the sunlight and I totally forgot to put eye drops in them when I got back to my dorm. Gabriel was no where to be seen after I finally got out of bed, that meant he was still at the infirmary. They must have been really busy if he's not back yet. I trudged over to my desk and put my Guardian badge in my pocket along with my keycard.
I made my way over to the elevator again and pushed the roof button. This maybe a quiet night but I highly doubt it, it's never quiet around here. Especially when you have vampires, as well as their hybrids, just like me, who like to feed on humans more than getting a blood bag from the infirmary. I've never really been attracted to humans in the same way they are, so I can usually deal with the hunger.
I finally reached the roof after eight more levels. It was a nice night, the moon was so very close to being full, that's when we gotta watch out for werewolves. I sat at the edge of my building with my legs hanging off the edge, I started to rock them back and forth. In the distance I could see other people jumping from building to building, they're probably Guardians.
After a few minutes, I stood up and jumped off the building, "materialize" I said softly as I was falling. My element heard me, darkness started to surround me and formed wings. They were elegant, ruffled just enough not to look tattered. Some of the darkness radiated off of them giving them a spooky appearance. My eyes turned a crimson red from using my powers. I caught my self with my wings before hitting the ground and with one powerful thrust from my wings I was launched high into the sky.
I drifted around for a little bit before a small, sweet, hint of iron was in the air. I saw a figure down below me in some shadow. I gently floated down and dispersed my wings, it turns out the figure was actually two people. The heavy scent of blood reached my nose, "I thought I smelled blood." I said with a deep, stern, voice.
"Oh really? If it's not obvious, something must be wrong with you." It was a male voice, pretty young, probably a teen who can't control his hunger yet. I heard a small whimper, his victim, a girl. "So, what in fact, do you think your doing? I suppose you are aware of the rules, correct?"
"So what? I got a little hungry and these dumb things aren't helping." He threw a half empty blood bag at my feet. A little bit of it splattered onto my jeans. "I'll have to take you in. You were clearly aware of the rules but you went against them. If you don't comply, I'll have to kill you." I flashed my eyes at him to show him I was serious. A vampire's eyes induce fear or mind control, but I don't ever need to manipulate a human's mind so I can have a little bite. He dropped the girl, the rag doll-like way she fell meant that she was passed out.
"Okay fine." He started walking slowly towards me. He lifted his arms and shrugged. "I don't see why I can't have a little bite, you must understand how it is to see all these delicious looking humans and not want a little nibble." He ran at me with vampire speed, I calmly stepped out of the way. "Your foolish." I said, he quickly turned around and ran towards me once again. "You really think that will work twice?" I raised my hand close to my face, darkness surrounded it. I stretched it out in his direction, "Go" I said calmly, several spikes made from my element appeared like they came out of the ground and punctured him in multiple places.
"You should've just came quietly with me."
"But that's no fun, at least it was worth a try."
"Touché, but I'm not stupid enough to go against the security at this school, unlike you." I took my opened hand and closed it tight. His body engulfed by darkness and wasn't to be seen anywhere, the only thing left behind was a splatter of blood where his body just was. "That was easy." I muttered turning around to get to his victim. I grabbed the girl and put her over my shoulder, she was cold. "Man, he really drained her." I said softly to myself. I haven't fed in days, so her blood smelt mouthwatering; the aroma was unbearable.
I walked into the entrance of the infirmary, and everything was busy, students in the lobby and also walking to the back to be examined. Gabe can really preform wonders, it's way too busy in here for my taste. "Hello? Is anyone here?" I started walking towards the back where the rooms were when I heard a response. "Over here!" It was Gabe, I walked over to where he called out. I walked in and placed the girl on a bed. "Where you feeding again Darius?" He started to immediately examine the girl, and stop the flow of blood that was still pouring out of her neck.
"You're funny." That's when I remember the blood splattered on my jeans.
"Did you get hurt?"
"No, I squashed him like a bug, Quite literally." I went and sat down in the lobby waiting to see it the girl would be okay. I don't really care about her at all but it's mandatory to stay with a victim until you know they're okay, or dead.
After a few minutes, Gabe walked in, "Shes okay we gave her some blood through an I.V. Your lucky you found her in time, she would've died."
"Yeah, I figured, she was pretty pale when I got to her. But, anyways, thanks for helping."
"It's my job. See you in a couple of hours." He patted me on the back. I waved to him as I walked out the door, back into the night. It's a never ending job but someone has to do it, and that's me.
A few hours later, I was back on top of the Royal Building, swinging my legs back and forth again. I get bored fairly easy, so I spend most of my time up here or flying around, which is really awesome. I see a few people walking around every so often, a few humans but mostly vampires headed towards the infirmary for a snack. I really need to feed soon or I'll end up attacking someone. It happened before when I went a week without feeding. Guardians are excused from feeding on humans, which is stupid, but it's the only thing that kept me from getting me killed besides Gabriel. He healed her and gave her blood before anyone could find out, but the guilt ate me alive, so I turned myself in. I doesn't matter anymore, but I have to be smart about my feeding periods.
I took my phone out of my pocket and dialed up Gabe's number, "Hey, I know your busy but could you bring a blood bag back to the dorm?" I sighed. He laughed, "So you're actually listening to me know? That's surprising."
"Well I can't help it, I'm freaking starving! I don't want to attack another human again!"
"Yeah, your right, but Darius you have to feed straight from the source sometimes too. Those blood bags only quench your thirst for a small amount of time, you know that."
"Yeah, yeah, could you just bring me one?"
"Sure." I hung up immediately. That's right, I can't be eating those blood bags all the time, I need a human.
Vampire hybrids here like to date humans so they have a direct source of blood with out getting into severe trouble, if they say yes then you can bite them. You can also get blood from other hybrids, but it's dangerous to intermix hybrids, serious monsters are made when that happens. Well, I guess you can't help who you connect with.
