I made sure that I walked home with Leikin since I ditched her yesterday.

"I still can't believe you lied to Zack, everything would be perfect for you right now, " Leikin said throwing her bag over her shoulder, pushing open the front door of the school and holding it open for a random person walking by.

"I know Lei, I should've though it over. Zack is avoiding me and won't even look at me," I sighed walking down the steps.

"Not to sound like an asshole, but I would too. I mean, it would be pretty awkward since he has feelings for you that he thinks you'll never return. He doesn't want to be friendzoned," I nodded in agreement. I knew where Leikin was coming from. The rest of the walk was basically random conversation.

I unlocked the door to my house to see my mom waiting for me on the couch.

"Hi, mom," I greeted.

"Hi, Mrs. Foreman," Leikin said politely.

"Hello girls," My mom smiled.

"I didn't know you got off of work early today," I said placing my backpack down and siting on the couch across from my mom. Leikin followed suit.

" I didn't, I took my lunch break late to talk to you about something," She said calmly. By my judging, it wasn't good news-for me at least.

"Ok. Can Leikin stay?" I asked. My mom nodded

"Samantha, you're moving back to Colorado." She stated calmly, like it was NOTHING. Not even a sorry or a hint of pity. She treated it like it was nothing. Leikin and I froze.

"What?" Leikin and I asked in unison.

"Mrs. Foreman, Sam can't leave. She has so many people she knowsand loves here, " Leikin said respectfully. My mom shook her head softly.

"She has to go. She's leaving next week Friday, it's the latest we can enroll her in school."

" Why do we have to move?" I asked still in shock.

"Oh, WE'RE not moving YOU are. I just can't afford to keep you here any more, Maryland is expensive." My mom replied. Those words cut like knives. She afforded to keep me here for about ten years now. What was the big deal now?

"What? Why? You afforded to keep me here for almost ten years and you recently got a raise. How could you possibly not afford me? It's not like we're struggling!" I exclaimed loosing it.

"Samantha,I-"

"Just admit it, you don't want me here!" I exclaimed.

"Do not use that tone with me, and I do want you here," My mom said calmly, yet stern.

"There you go again, you're acting so calm, like we just set up a picnic. Why are you like this?!" I yelled louder. Leikin just sat there awkwardly not knowing what to say or do.

"Samantha, Calm down.I already bought your plane tickets and set everything up. You can't complain about it," My mom said shrugging.

I got off of the couch and walked to the door. Leikin grabbed her bag and followed me.

" I need to get some air," I stated walking out of the house as Leikin followed. Leikin and I just started walking we didn't know where to, but we just did.

After a few minutes of walking, Leikin broke the silence. "I can't believe you're leaveing just like that."

"Me either," I replied. I did not want to leave Maryland, but there's not much left to do about it.
