"Just cause I'm a girl and short doesn't mean I can't kick your ass," -Effie

One does not simply break into a base of a highly violent extremist group such as the Silver Arrow, especially a 4 foot 6 girl, by her damn self, but Effie never like following expectations. There are at least a 140 mercenaries currently occupying the base, but none of that mattered to her. This wasn't the first base she's crashed and stormed. The stakes this time were higher than usual, Silver Arrow had gone too far this time. Effie had witness not even 2 hours ago the capture of two young dragons from the quiet meadow they had been playing in, and each second that went by the greater the risk the two dragons were in. Time was definitely not her friend today. A big wig was suppose to arrive on the base later that day, or that's at least what the mercenaries had been discussing while they transported the dragons back. The nice part about being small is how easy it was for her to hide and hitch a ride with the group back to the base without being detected. Whoever they had coming meant trouble for the dragons and Effie would be damned if she let them hurt them.

The hard part was getting through the complex. Guards where stationed all around the base doing patrols and what not. There was no change Effie could ever pass as a guard with her stature, so it was 'cat woman time' as she liked to call it.

"Slip in, grab the dragons, send them home, kick some SA ass and get one of those parfaits at Juno's Cafe," Effie thought as she slipped around a corner barley missing being detected by a group of guards. Noticing a ladder to her right she climbed down and swung her small body to the next bridge level, continuing weaving around the guards as silent as dead.

At the end of one hallway there was to the right was a black door which was made of Agnomite, a new mineral the humans had discovered that weakened dragons so that they could not shift or communicate mentally. It basically made them from strong bad ass beasts into weak little puppys. Effie took a quick breathe to calm her nerves as her body tensed before she burst out behind the wall she had been hiding behind. Not expecting an attack, Effie was able to roundhouse kick the first guard in the face, knocking him unconscious. The second shook off the shock and grabbed for her trying to take her to the ground to most likely subdue her. Effie wriggled out of his hold and twisted until she had his head in a choke hold with her legs wrapped around his torso and arms.

"Come on damn it, just go to sleep," Effie gasped out as the guard finally went lax, falling unconscious. "Thank god, James taught me something good that asshole of an ex," Effie thought venomously.  She untangled herself from him and grabbing the keys at his waist in the process. Squaring her shoulders and still pumping with adrenaline, she opened the door to see two dragons huddled together. Blood was everywhere on them along with many wounds which it flowed from. The larger dragon was huddled over the smaller one as though he was trying to protect it. At her entrance a growl was heard as the larger one glared at her with hate and bared its teeth.

"It's alright," Effie said," putting her hands up in surrender, "I'm here to help you get out." She slowly inched closer into the room. Keeping her head low and hands where they could be seen, she kept eye contact with the dragon, crossing the room. The growls started to die down the closer she got and Effie could see the pain and exhaustion that he was in. "Is she your sister?" She asked as she nodded to the dragon under him. The dragon just nodded solemnly. This made Effie smile in sadness, "You've done a good job protecting her. Rest now my friend, all will be well. I won't anything happen to you two. I'll get you home safe and well, you have my word." The dragon stared into her eyes and must have found what he needed because he relaxed letting his head fall onto his sisters back. Gently Effie passed her hands over the two dragons, a purple glow followed her, seeping into the wounds until they completely disappeared. She traveled her hands all over the dragons making sure to get every wound. When Effie slumped to the ground, gasping for breathe as though she had ran a marathon, sweat creasing her brow, she looked to see two children sitting on the concrete next to her staring at her in shock.

"How did you...?," the boy with sandy blonde hair asked, his yellow eyes swimming with curiosity.

"How is not important. What is important is making this right. I'm sorry for what you have had to endure thanks to my kind, and I ask that you don't hold this on all humans though a lot do deserve your hate," Effie spoke as her heart started to calm down to a steadier pace. "It's you decisions though. We need to get out of here now. Time to get you two home, I bet your parents are worried sick," Effie said as she got up and extended her hands to each child. The little  sandy blonde girl who looked identical to her brother, probably the age of 6 , gripped onto Effie's hand in a death grip. The boy grabbed his sisters other hand and nodded to Effie in agreement.

With that they charged out of the room and quickly through the complex. There were less guards in the corridors than before, making it easier for Effie to lead the dragon children from one level to the next until they were at the exit out into a training field. There was no one around and it was a straight shot over the fence and into  the wilderness. Effie kissed both children's heads and stated, "We just need to get over that fence there and it will be home free. As soon as I open this door bolt for it don't worry about anything except getting over that fence. Shift as soon as you can and get the hell home."

"What about you? You can't fly," the boy stated simply looking at her with horror in his eyes as he understood her plan. "You don't plan to make it do you?"

"I have some unfinished business with these morons and it's high time I take them down a few notches," Effie grinned evilly, "It's time they learned that they can't do whatever they want to dragons. And I'm going to make them listen even if I have to beat it out of them."

"Be safe flower," the little girl said as she hugged Effie in a bone crushing hug around the waist.

"Flower?" Effie questioned as she hugged the girl back.

"You smell like the best flower ever. I don't wanna see you hurt," the little girl said with tears in her eyes. Effie brushed the tears away with her sleeve. "I will, now go, you two, run and don't look back," she commanded pushing them away and out the door.

You know when time slows down in those movies for a dramatic chase scene or explosions in the background, well none of that happened. They burst out the door and took off like bats out of hell halfway to the fence shouting was heard to Effie's right and she didn't even have to look to know they'd been discovered.

"Shift now," Effie yelled as she turned around, slinking to the ground, tripping one guard who had practically been on top of her. A roar was heard and the flapping of wings as Effie wrestled and kicked at the guards slowly surrounding her. A fist flew out, connecting with her face, sending her spiraling to the ground. Within seconds two guys were on her restraining her and trying to push her face into the dirt. Effie struggled on the ground for a bit, finally getting a glimpse of the sky to see two dragons as small blimps in the distance.

"Thank goodness," Effie thought as her body slowly accepted it's exhaustion, succumbing to her captures.

"You little bitch let those abominations get away. I can't wait to see what Commander Whitehall does to you," one guard sneered into her ear as he pulled her up and started pushing her toward the compound.

A chill ran through Effie at the one name she never wanted to hear of again.
