Alice, Luna and Neville went to the Three Broomsticks to have a Butterbeer. As they sat down, Alice noticed that her younger sister, Ginny, was snogging with Dean Thomas. It was a strange thing to see, since she always thought she liked Harry. Speaking of him, at that time, he, Hermione and Ron came in. And also Draco. He had a mysterious black package with him. He was, indeed, a very mysterious boy this year. 'He's got something,' Alice thought. 'Something bad.'
"I'm going to the loo." Alice warned Luna and Neville and they nodded.
Alice followed Draco's steps and found him in the girls' toilet, giving the mysterious package to Katie Bell. She gets out of the toilet and Alice gets in and caughts up Malfoy.
"What were you doing?" Alice questioned him, as his eyes widen and he steps back.
"None of your business, Weasley." He snapped.
"Katie is from my house and I know you're bad news. What is in the package?"
"I can't tell you." He frowned.
"If something bad happens to her, I will be the first person to denounce you. Unless you tell me."
"You can't blackmail me, Weasley." He smirked.
"Yes I can." She almost growled. She threw him to the wall. "What is in the fucking package?" She asked again, while holding Draco by the wall. His eyes widen with fear.
"Okay, okay!" He gave up and Alice freed him. Draco was surprised by how intimidating Alice can be. "You have to promise me you won't tell anyone." She nodded. Draco left up his left sleeve, showing his Death Eater tattoo. As she recognised, she gasped.
"You are a..." Alice tried to complete the sentence.
"Yes. But I hate it! My father just got out of Azkaban and my mother only trusts my aunt now. I couldn't say no to her. She needs me. And the Dark Lord wants me to assassinate Dumbledore."
"What? You can't do that!" She gasped.
"I know! That's why I'm fixing a Vanishing Cabinet hidden in the Room of Requirements. When the time comes, I hope I won't have to do it."Alice frowned, confused at herself. On one hand, she had the feeling to tell everyone but, on the other hand, she would keep her promise, because, after all, she was starting to care about Draco.
"Now, you won't tell anyone, right? Can I trust you, Alice?" Draco asked, as Alice had a goosebump. It was the first time he ever called her by her first name. She nodded.
"Just... Try to stop that, okay?" She said, before leaving. Tears came to Draco's eyes. Now, the girl he cared so much was about to hate him.Alice felt like her heart could explode. Why him?, was the only question remaining in her mind. Why she would care about a person she should despise? A single tear fell off her right eye while she felt something unknown in her chest.
"Oh! Miss Weasley!" She encountered Professor Slughorn. "I was looking for you. When I used to be a teacher, I used to make these little parties in the holidays. I'mhaving a little supper for some of the best students tomorrow. I'll be very pleased to welcome you."
"Thank you, Professor, I'll be very delighted to appear." She faked a smile. Professor Slughorn smiled back and left. She finally made her way to her friends, who already ordered three Butterbeers.
"What took you so long?" Neville asked.
"Girl's things, Neville." Alice giggled. After all, her friends still could make her feel better. After they spent some time together, the three friends returned to the castle. Alice noticed that her twin brother and two best friends were talking with Professors McGonagall and Snape and she silently peeked what was going on. She saw Professor Snape holding up this weird necklace that was in a black package. 'That is the package Draco had.', Alice thought.
"I must say Miss Bell is lucky to be alive." She heard Professor Snape say. 'He gave it to her.'
"She was cursed, didn't she?" Harry said. 'That's it! That's why he gave it to her, he must have given it to her to deliver to Professor Dumbledore.'
"It was Malfoy."
"That's a very serious accusation, Potter. What makes you say that?"
"I just know."Alice gasped. 'They know. They know it was him, somehow. How can I protect Draco from this?' Alice ran to the Gryffindor dormitories trying to write a letter as fastest as she could.
"Dearest Draco,
I'm writing to you because I just found out that Harry suspects you gave the necklace to Katie. (We both know that's true) But I promised you that I would keep a secret and I just think you deserve to know that. I just wrote a letter because we both don't want to be seen together.
Alice."
She wrapped the letter and quickly gave it to Mollyfly, her owl. "Give it to Draco, Molly, quickly." The owl flew and quickly arrived to Draco.
Draco was on his bedroom, in the Slytherin dormitories, laying on his bed, thinking about what just happened with Alice, when he sees an hazel owl sitting on his bedroom window. He notices it has a message saying "To Draco". He opens the window and gets the letter. The owl just flies to where it came from.
Draco opens the letter noticing that it is from Alice. He quickly reads it and a frown takes control of his face. He was in trouble. He knew how well Potter talked with Dumbledore. What if Potter told Dumbledore that he gave the necklace to Katie.
After moments of freaking out and re-reading the letter and thinking of what would happen to him, Draco finally found his place and relaxed, because there were no proof that it was him. He picked up a piece of paper and a pen and started to write a reply for Alice. After all, she could've said something but didn't.He wrapped his letter and gave it to his owl, who quickly arrived at Alice's bedroom window. She noticed, picked up the letter and started reading it.
"Dearest Alice,
I can't thank you enough for not telling anyone. I know we didn't start on the best terms, thanks to the history of our families, but I really want you to know that I didn't have a choice in this. I really wish I didn't have to do this. And it hurts me.
If you're up to it, I'd like to talk to you and tell you everything. I have a task to do tomorrow night, so, I'll be in the Astronomy Tower at 11, waiting. I'd be delighted if you came.
Draco"
Alice blushed a little bit. He sounded so nice, so different from what she knew of him. She didn't know what to reply, so, she folded the letter and hid it in her journal. And that weird feeling on the chest appeared again.
A/N: Hi! Look who's back after 4 years of not writing this story! It's been hard for me to write lately, and because I'm not a native english speaker, my english has been improving so I might need to rewrite those other chapters. I've been feeling very inspired to continue to write this story (blame it on DracoTok) and I really want to finish this. Hope you've enjoyed this chapter, 4 years in the making!
