6 months earlier:
"That was such a nice weekend!" My mom yelled over the loud music Mare and I blared through the car speakers.
We both nodded, I was still full of Turkey and mashed potatoes.
"Let's stop at Friendly's and grab dad some clam chowder!" I yelled remembering it was one of his favorite places to get it.
Mom quickly jerked off the exit and found a parking space getting a to-go container of the already made soup.
We had only 45 minutes left in the ride so I called home.
"Hey dad! Guess what we got!" I laughed.
"What did you get?" He replied.
"Clam chowder!" I yelled.
"That sounds amazing! How was Thanksgiving with Nancy and them?" He asked.
"It was good, it was boring without you." I admitted.
"I'm sorry, you know I don't like big gatherings. My anxiety kicks in." He said with sorrow.
"Well were coming up the road now! See ya!" I yelled looking at all the snow in our backyard.
"Bye sweetie." He replied hanging up.
We unpacked the car quickly and got inside to the warmth.
"Why don't you girls have some friends over? It's good packing snow!" My mom came into the room and sat down by my father.
"Yeah sure!" Mare and I both agreed.
"Hey Mare, can you go shovel the back porch? The excess weight isn't good for it." Dad politely asked.
"Yeah, let me just run the vacuum." She said.
He shook his head but and closed his eyes for a nap. Mom and I being tired left the two of them out in the living room to go take a nap in the king size bed.
After waking up shortly after I walked out to my dad not sleeping anymore and Mare still cleaning. I cleared the kitchen table off and Mare went out into the back porch with the shovel.
"Emma! Come here! Dad's on the ground" She screamed.
I dropped the napkins and ran.
"What!?!?" I screamed.
"Call 911 and wake mom up!" She threw the shovel on the ground and ran to check his pulse as I got the phone.
I ran into the bedroom, "Mom, dad in the ground. He needs help!"
It was completely chaotic.
"Mare I can't call. You know that I get nervous." I threw the phone to her.
My mom came running into the room and asked where dad was, I pointed to the back porch.
"Go to your room, take Bogey and Bella." She shooed the dogs away.
I sat in there crying, not knowing if when I walked out I would still have a dad.
Mare came in sobbing and hugged me, "He's gone, Em."
I was in complete shock, "What do you mean he's gone, they can get him back. They did before!" I cried.
"No, Em. He's gone for good." She held me tight.
I got my phone and texted Gwen and Alexa in a group when Mare went back out.
Me: Guys, my dad..he's gone. We found him out on the back porch.
Lex: What?!?!? Do you want us to come? I can pick Gwen up.
Me: yeah, gwens grandpa is here now with the ambulance.
It seemed like ages until they got there but once they did, we all were sobbing.
