"Are you alright, darling?"

Louis nods meekly, nuzzling his face further into the pillow. He parts his mouth to let out a pink yawn, a quiet squeak coming out to accompany it. A fond smile graces the Dominant's features as he sits on the side of the bed, reaching out to touch his Submissive. The smaller boy sighs happily, closing his eyes. Harry rubs his thumb along his baby's cheekbone.

"The kittens were all asleep when I checked," he whispers. He doesn't want to interrupt the moment. He is unsure what this moment holds, but he is sure there is one. It holds something - the air thick. Louis nods softly.

"The deputy called," he says quietly.

Harry sucks in a breath, his eyes wide with fear. "What'd he say?"

"That you need to come into court tomorrow," Louis looks down at his thumbs, wringing them around. "What did you do?"

Harry gasps. "Kitten, I didn't do anything illegal. I swear. I'm just a witness."

"You saw something illegal?" Louis questions.

"Not exactly. But I knew the man that was part of the crime."

"You knew the man? What'd he do? Was it Zayn? Because I swear to God -"

"If I hear one curse word come out of that fucking mouth, Louis, I swear to God, I'll make your ass even more red than it already is," Harry growls.

Louis' eyes widen. "I was just going to say that I don't want him around Niall or their kittens if he did anything illegal..."

Harry rolls his eyes. "I know your shit, Louis. But, no, Zayn didn't do anything wrong."

"Then who did?"

"Jesus, Louis. Do you always have to be so intrusive?" Harry all but yells.

Louis shrinks into the mattress. He assures himself that his Dominant is just in a pissy mood from coming home to the kitchen being a mess and he shakes his head, sniffling. "I'm sorry, Daddy. I won't ask anymore questions," he sulks, wiping his runny nose and slinking further into the pillow, turning on his side so his cherry red bum doesn't rub against the sheets in his sleep.

He hears the older man sigh behind him before the bed dips down. A large hand splays out across the curve of his waist and Harry places his head right on top of the smaller boys, petting and rubbing his ears with his free hand. "I'm sorry, darling. I'm just tired, but that's no excuse. You just aggravate me sometimes, but I love you more than anything. Let's just go to sleep, uh? I'm going to go get undressed."

And the weight is gone from the bed, leaving Louis alone and cold. He sniffles again, closing his baby blue eyes and taking a deep breath. When Harry climbs back into the bed, in just some cut-off short sweatpants, Louis pretends to be asleep. Only to stay up all night.

------------

Nine grueling hours later, Louis is dead on his feet. He is standing in the kitchen, at the stove, just staring at the steam as it pours from the spout of the kettle. His ears are laid back sleepily and eyes wide and dry, trying his best to stay awake.

That's how his Dominant finds him when he walks into the kitchen, adjusting his shirt buttons. He glances up to see his kitten standing with his back to him, tail limp and the tip lying on the floor. He sighs, putting the pieces together. The boy was up before Harry today. He never is. He likes his cat nap. So the tall man strides up to the kitten, placing his hands on his waist. Louis barely flinches, his eyes closing ever-so-slightly.

"Kitten,  just go back to sleep. You're obviously exhausted. I'll call Zayn and Niall and they can watch the kittens when they wake up," Harry says quietly.

"But it's Saturday. They need to sleep in and have time with their kittens," Louis all but whispers. He obviously isn't going to put up much of a fight.

Harry sighs. "I'll lay down with you until you fall asleep."

Louis whimpers, flicking off the oven eye and turning in his lover's arms. He nuzzles his face in his chest, whimpering softly. Harry smiles lightly, picking up the boy in his arms. He carries him bridal style to the bedroom, covering him and toeing off his black boots. He slides into bed behind Louis, spooning his tiny body. Louis curls up perfectly against his chest, snuggling into the pillow. Moments later, his breathing evens and he's out like a light.

Harry kisses his forehead once, smiling at his feminine form before leaving the bedroom, grabbing his shoes and phone. He calls Zayn, who answers on the fourth ring.

"What the fuck do you want, man?" Zayn groans, his voice tough and raspy.

"Listen, so Louis got no sleep last night because I yelled at him before we went to bed and he was dead on his feet. He's out like a light. He isn't coming back from the dream world anytime soon and I was wondering if maybe you and Niall could come over for a playdate/watching the kittens," Harry explains, sheepishly in the beginning.

He hears Zayn sigh. "Ni, too?"

"You going to leave him at home alone?" Harry raises his eyebrow.

Zayn snorts. "God no. When should I be over?"

"The kittens usually wake up around ten, but Jax sometimes wakes up at nine and he'll go watch television for an hour until his brother and sister are up. But the new babies wake up about eleven. We feed them at four, so it'll be fine."

Zayn hums. "Alright. We'll be over at eight thirty. I'll wake up Ni and make my way over."

"Thank you so much, mate."

"No problem."

The line goes dead. Harry leaves for court.

------------

The next time Louis wakes up, he's surrounded by warmth. He smiles immediately, cuddling into the mass behind him. Harry pulls him closer, nuzzling his face into his neck. The baby monitor starts to wail next to him and he sighs, reaching up to turn it off.

He sits up, watching Harry sleeping next to him. He leans down to kiss his forehead, smiling when Harry grumbles something under his breath and buries himself in the pillow, his hair strewn out across the white pillow case.

Louis goes to the babies, seeing Phoenix fussing and wiggling around. He smiles brightly, picking up his tiny baby, who kicks out squealing loudly. Louis smiles, glancing at the digital clock over the doorframe. Sure enough, it's four o'clock. But it's dark outside. Louis gasps internally. Did he sleeps all day and nearly all night?

He sits on the rocking chair, unbuttoning his shirt and letting the kitten feed. He blinks wildly. He slept for so long, it's unreal. The last time he slept like that, he was pregnant with Jax, Jet and Breanna. He shakes his head, ridding of the thought when Phoenix dribbles some milk down his cheek. Louis swipes the liquid away, cooing at his baby.

He repeats the process with Irelyn and Caspian, carrying them one by one all out to the living room and deciding to let them sleep on around him on the couch as he watches television.

And when Harry walks in a few hours later, unruly hair pulled up out of his face, to see his kitten surrounded with three of his sleeping babies, he smiles to himself and asks himself how this could get any better.
