Bleep

Oh for pete's sake! It's too early in the morning for this....I opened my eyes and realised where I was. Yup at home in my bed that was half falling apart. My older brother burnt out from working all night sleeping next to me. I took in his adorable features. Sandy blonde hair, green eyes, tall and too skinny. He had muscles from working lifting crates and loading them into trucks all day. Literally twelve hour shifts doing nothing but stacking crates. I was worried about him, after all he was pretty much all I've got. Without my brother doing nothing but work we wouldn't have the roof over our heads. Which was a shitty apartment where there was one bed we put in the lounge room. We didn't have a working stove, fridge or tv.

I groaned making him stir a little but I covered my mouth. He turned over and went back to snoring. I let out a sigh of relief before going to the bathroom. I looked at my features in the mirror and bit my lip bringing tears to my eyes. I looked nothing like my gorgeous brother. I have black hair, I'm pale and too skinny for my figure. I'm supposed to be curvy with nice rounded hips and a nice bust. Instead I have wide boney hips, you can see my ribs and my face looks sunken. I have green eyes and a perfect cupids bow on my lips. If only I were sandy blonde like my brother and maybe had enough to eat I could actually be attractive enough to someone who has money.

I combed out the knots in my hair and twisted it up in a bun. My brother had bought me some foundation for my birthday that just passed. It had cost him the twenty dollars that he could have used on some more clothes for himself. He had worked twenty four hours straight for the money so I could wear it to work in the hopes of looking a little better. He was right, even though I used as little as possible so it could last until my next birthday it did make me feel nicer. We didn't always have money for water so we didn't shower often. The times we do bathe we fill a bucket and sponge bath so we save water money.

I put a little foundation over the bags under my eyes and around my cheeks. It evened it out a little and I felt nicer already. I quickly put on my work uniform that consisted of a light blue work shirt with silver buttons and a black skirt. I wore skin colour tights that had a few ladders in them. I put on my black work shoes that I've been wearing for the past two years and took a quick look at myself. I looked alright but nothing like the richer women at work. They look fabulous with their make up and black shoes with little heels. They were nicer skirts that aren't years old. My skirt hangs off me and doesn't even flatter me. Nothing I wear does...it looks like a tent. I'm so skinny that nothing I wear actually looks good on me.

I quickly grabbed my tiny handbag that I put my keys in and started to walk too work. I took the backstreets to work where I passed the gangs. They all nodded and winked at me. They were really nice guys when you get to know them. They kind of are like big teddy bears.

"How are you today Eureka?" One of the gang men, Dave, asked me smiling.

"Well, yourself?" I asked back politely.

"Very well, how is your brother doing?"

"Same old same old," I said biting my lip. "He needs more to eat though he's getting far to thin."

"Here I have something for you," he said passing me an envelope. "Give this to your brother when you get home and don't let anyone see it alright?"

"Thank you Dave," I said smiling at him.

I pressed my lips quickly to his cheek and he blushed. The others starting taking the piss out of him but I just smiled and kept walking. I knew some of them thought I was beautiful but they weren't in a better position than me and my brother. They've been talking me up whenever they meet someone who has some money. Bless their hearts that they care. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by caring people. Just because they are in a gang doesn't mean they don't care about others. It's different to the normal gangs here, they just kill the things that aren't supposed to be in this world. I guess they are less gang like and more hunter mode.
