"I'm leaving, Tiffany." The words that escaped his lips forced my body to go completely numb. A lump formed in my throat as I attempted to swallow before speaking. "No need to talk me out of it. I've made up my mind and already packed my stuff." "Gavin," I have to talk him out of this. It may not be best for me to speak, but its better than sitting in silence and giving him the "OK" to walk out of my life. "I don't know where to start, and I guess 'sorry' would make sense." He holds his hands up, hushing me dead silent. I didn't want to make him any more upset with me than he already was. "No need to apologize, Tiffany. I'm not leaving you because you missed another day I've had planned for us, again. I'm leaving because my mom has cancer."
My heart sank straight down to my feet. I could feel every ounce of color flush from my face. His mom is like a mother to me! "Oh my God! What?!" was all I could muster. "Yes, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. That's why she planned the breakfast date for the BOTH of us to attend. She wanted to tell us together. We are all she has left, Tiffany! And you cant put work aside for me, hell for us, not once. But this was important to her. She told us over and over that she needed is there. So once I got to your office an saw your door closed, I knew you were in a meeting. Like always. Your receptionist just confirmed it, and I walked away." I put my head down in disappointment and shame. Wait, he mentioned nothing about hearing anything. Is that the least of his concerns right now? Does he rather not bring it up at a time like this? "So, you just saw my door closed and then you left? You didn't bother knocking?" He stands up and slams his fist on the table, and I almost jump out of my chair. I place my hand on my chest to catch my breath from being startled. "Damn it, Tiffany! Hell no I didn't knock. For what? To interrupt your nut?!" My bottom jaw hits the floor. "Yea, you can pick up your fuckin' face! I been knew about the mother fucker, Tiffany! Late calls, extra overtime, rushing to 'your office' at random hours of the day when you've taken off?! Yes, I knew a long time ago, but I never had proof. Until now."
Today must be my "stuck day" because here I am once again, stuck. No words. No movement. Not even a blink. "I just don't know who the bastard is." Those words allowed me to raise my head and look at his face. "Gavin, listen." "There is no listening, Tiffany! I'm going. Not because of the cheating ass bitch you are," a tear instantly runs down my cheek. He's never disrespected me. I know hes hurt right now, but him being the person to say those words, that cut me deep. "But because my mother needs me, now. More than ever. So once I get her situated, healed, and taken care of, I'm coming to handle you and this hoe-ish shit you've been pulling. Mark my words." He picks up his bottle, retrieves his keys and jacket, then slams the door behind him. The house stood still. No movement from any room. A cold chills shoots through my body, and I then realize that that's how this house will feel from now on. Cold and alone.
