Chapter One: Captured
Thirteen year old Ravyn Garrison jolted up in bed, sweat dripping down her face and body. She had had another night terror, something that seemed to be reoccurring now a days. Ever since her mother's death the year before, Ravyn's dreams had been filled with memories and nightmares, the two twisting together until Ravyn couldn't tell fact from Fiction. It had haunted her day and night, and tonight her dreams seemed to be out for vengeance against her.
Ravyn looked up at the wall behind her and touched the dream catcher her step mother, Selene Farerra- Garrison, had made for her and her sisters Sorcha and Katerina Kirst. "Fat lot of good you've been doing me lately, now haven't you?" She asked the thing, her British accent becoming prominent in her speech. Ravyn sighed and flung her black comforter off of her bed, planning on going down the stairs to get herself a soda from the fridge. Most people would just get a glass of water in the middle of the night, but Ravyn never did. She hated the taste of water and never drank it.
A loud crack sounded from down the stairs and Ravyn ducked in fear. After finding her mother, Step father and his mother all dead in her mothers home last year, Ravyn had been the most cautious person on the planet. So when she heard the sudden crack, something that sounded like a bullet being shot from a gun, she had ducked down and crawled her way next door to her little sister Katerina's room. Their older sister Sorcha was currently living with her boyfriend a couple miles away, so now it was just her younger sister, step mom and Dad all living in the same house together.
Ravyn slowly opened her sisters bedroom door and crawled inside, closing it behind her. She got to her feet and walked over to her sisters bed, looking under the covers to make sure her sister hadn't run off in the middle of the night to see her boyfriend again. A small frame of human with honey blonde hair and blue eyes that stared up at Ravyn with sleep, sat on the bed, under the pink and purple flowered comforter. Ravyn smiled in relief and then placed a hand over her sisters mouth, essentially waking the ten year old girl up and scaring her.
Ten year old Katerina Kirst woke with a start and screamed, her scream being muffled by the hand that held her. "SHH!!" Her older sister Ravyn whisper yelled at her, placing one finger over her lips. Katerina looked at her sister confused, not understanding what she was doing in her room in the middle of the night. Ravyn pulled her sister out of the bed by her arm and ducked under the bed, bringing her sister with her. "I think there's someone in the house Kat," Ravyn whispered to her sister as they took refuge under the bed. Katerina's eyes widened at her sisters words and fear raced down her spine. "What do we do?" She whispered back. "We hide," Ravyn replied, pulling her sister farther under the bed as she heard footsteps stomping up the stairs. Ravyn placed a finger to her lips once more and shifted forms into her shape-shifting fox form, giving her sister a nudge at her feet so she would curl them under herself and completely conceal herself under the bed.
Ravyn crawled out from under the bed and crept to the door, nudging it open just enough with her nose that she was able to peek through the crack in the door. She gasped when she saw a large man walk down the hall towards her parents room while another stood on the landing of the stairs, waiting. Ravyn's eyes widened at the sight and she quickly slunk back under the bed and shifted forms. "There are two men that I know of," she whispered to her sister as they heard crashing coming from their parents room. "One of them is on the landing, the other in mom and dad's room." Katerina nodded fearfully and took her sisters hand. "Do you remember the things I taught you last week?" Ravyn asked her sister, speaking of the long and grueling training session that they had, Ravyn taking the time to train her sister in the way of the Hunters as her mother had once taught her.
Katerina nodded her head. "Of course I do," she whispered back. "I still have the bruises from when you shot me with that paint ball gun of yours!" Ravyn rolled her eyes at her sisters whining, but slunk out from under the bed once more and crawled over to her sisters dresser, where she opened up the bottom drawer and pulled up the false bottom she had created two weeks before while her sister was out with Jeremy Bradshaw, her current boyfriend of the month. She pulled out the two knives and two loaded nine mm. handguns she had placed in the bottom. She crawled back under the bed and handed her sister one of the knives and guns. "This one has real bullets in it little sister," she cautioned her sister. "Be careful and use it only if necessary, okay?" Katerina nodded and placed the gun in the back of her jeans like her sister, hiding it beneath her shirt. They listened to the footsteps as they made their way down the hall. A sudden crash came from Ravyn's room and they knew the man that had once been in their parents room was now in hers.
Ravyn sat there, as still as possible, and listened as the man rifled through Ravyn's room. "I don't think these kids are home boss," they heard the man yell from Ravyn's room. Katerina huddled closer to her sister, shaking. She was terrified that they were going to be found. Ravyn wrapped an arm around her sister, trying to comfort her the best that she could as she waited for the men to enter her little sisters room. She, unlike her sister, knew that the men would end up finding them. But she also knew that she and her sister would not go down without a fight.
And that's just what she planned to do.
"Check the last room, if they aren't in there we'll just have to tell Vegas," the man on the stairs told the other. A moment later the man who had been searching the rooms entered, the man from the stairs following him in. Together the two men tore Katerina's room apart, searching the bed, closet and even the dresser drawers, trying to find her and her sister. Finally, the two men stood by the door and Ravyn watched as one of them, the man from the stairs, poked his head out of Katerina's room and yelled down the stairs. "Hey Boss!" The man yelled. There was silence for a moment and Ravyn heard a grunt of pain that sounded like her father down stairs, before another man made his way up the first set of stairs and stood on the landing leading to the second set. "What Jamison?!" The new man on the stairs yelled. The man named Jamison flinched before he answered. "We haven't found them Boss, I don't think their here," Jamison said to the man he called "Boss". The man grinned maliciously. "Oh their here alright. I can smell their fear. Check under EVERYTHING," the man on the stairs said, as he made his way back down to the first floor.
Ravyn caught her breath and quickly clapped a hand over Katerina's mouth as she whimpered in fear. They watched the two men leave the room and listened as they went back through her and her parents rooms, searching again. After a few moments the two men returned to Katerina's room and searched it once more. When they once again found nothing they stood at the side of the bed and scratched their heads in confusion. "I think the only place left is under the bed, we've checked everywhere else." The man who had been searching the rooms said to Jamison.
Jamison nodded and Ravyn tensed, knowing that they were about to be found. "Kat, I know their about to find us," Ravyn said, sending her thoughts into Katerina's mind through the link she had created with her sister long ago. Katerina nodded, her mouth still covered by Ravyn's hand and Ravyn felt tears hit her hand as her sister began to cry. "No crying," Ravyn told her mentally. "We have to be strong, for Mom and Dad, okay?" Once again Katerina nodded and blinked her eyes multiple times to stop the tears that still threatened to fall. "Once they find us they are probably going to drag us downstairs, and we're going to let them," Katerina looked at her sister in shock and confusion at her mental words. "Your kidding, right?" She thought, knowing her sister could hear her. Ravyn shook her head. "We're going to let them and you are going to wait for my signal before we attack, got it?" Katerina lay there for a moment, completely silent before she finally nodded in acceptance. Ravyn nodded back and looked out from the space between the bed and the floor, waiting for the men to make their moves. She did a quick concealment charm on both of their weapons, making it to where, if they were frisked by the men, they wouldn't find nor feel the guns or knives they currently had on them.
It only took a couple seconds but soon the man from the stairs pulled up the comforter and looked under the bed, finding Ravyn and Katerina. Ravyn immediately did something she hadn't originally planned on doing.
She her hand, which she had her knife held in an iron tight grip, and thrust it at the man, stabbing him straight in his eye.
The man screamed in pain and Ravyn heard the other side of the bed's comforter be pulled up and the man on the other side grabbed a hold of both Ravyn and Katerina's ankles and dragged them out. Ravyn and Katerina didn't make a sound, but they both kicked at the man who had dragged them from their hiding place and scrambled to their feet, making a run for the door. They both knew the other man, who Ravyn had injured, would be waiting to catch them. And they would let him do so. But they had to at least LOOK like they were going to put up a good fight. The men would become suspicious if they didn't.
The injured man, Jamison, grabbed both girls about the waist and shoved Ravyn back, straight into the other mans open and waiting arms. Both girls struggled in their captives arms as the two men picked them up by their waists and dragged them down the stairs. Once they had reached the first floor, the two men shoved them to the ground and pulled their heads up by their hair, making them look straight at the man who had been on the stairs a moment before.
