CHAPTER 10

Three hours later, all their things were packed again, and the three of them stood at the doorway of PATH, waiting for those two big men, Bill had forgotten their names, to bring Tom down from the infirmary. A private jet had landed earlier that was gonna take them to the USA to see those experts about Tom's chip.

"Who's jet is it?" Bill asked, as they lugged their things into the jet.

"I don't know, one of the medics we're gonna see."

"Must be filthy rich."

"Obviously. He's an expert in his trade. People come from all over the world to see them. Like we are now."

Finally, the men arrived with Tom on the stretcher between them.

"Put him over there." Jake waved towards a stiff bed on one wall of the jet. "And strap him in while you're at it."

The men transfered his limp frame onto the bed, strapping him on it with a seat belt on his hips and chest.

After they were done, they left the jet.

"Can we go now?"

"Yup. Lemme just tell the pilot we're ready." Andy offered, disappearing behind a curtain at the front of the jet.

"How long is this flight again?"

"I don't know. 10 hours, maybe?"

Bill groaned, then collapsed onto one of the seats, leaning his head back against the head rest.

"Great."

Andy came back, sitting two seats away from Bill.

"We're taking off now."

Before long, the jet rumbled and started moving below them.

"Here we go again." Bill mumbled. "I'm going to sleep." he yawned, curling up in his seat. Soon enough, he was deep asleep.

"Bill?" Andy called, making sure he was asleep. Bill didn't turn around. Andy then glanced at Jake.

"I don't think this is the best idea. We should tell him."

"No. How do you think he would feel? He obviously doesn't care about Tom at all."

"But what if Tom gets seriously hurt in the operation? Or dies? And us not telling him until after he dies? He would hate us."

"Yeah, but-" they both froze as Bill stirred in his sleep. Once he had settled back, they both exhaled.

"Fine, fine, I'll tell him when we get there."

They leaned back into their seats, the stress leaving their bodies temporarily as they relaxed. Andy's eyes slid close, the hum of the aircraft lulling him to sleep. Jake blinked lazily, stretching his legs in front of him. He napped for two hours, and awoke because of a loud bang that he assumed to be turbulence. He rubbed his eyes, looking around. The sky outside was dark and stormy, and he thought drowsily, "It must've been thunder." He shut his eyes again, but did a quick sweep of the jet before falling back asleep.

Andy and Bill were still asleep. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Except... Jake gasped, his eyes snapping wide open. Tom was gone. Shit, shit, shit! He leapt out of his seat, running to Andy and Bill.

"Guys, wake up, wake up!" he hissed. They stirred, blinking sleepily.

"'sup?" Bill slurred.

"It's Tom. He's gone."

Bill jumped up.

"What?!"

"Yeah. He's somewhere in the plane."
