Levi was thankful he'd made it over the wall with what little gas he'd had, but he couldn't say he was too pleased with his unexpected trip over its edge. Unfortunately, he'd used the remainder of his gasoline on getting up Wall Maria. The fall could neither be stopped nor even slowed.

Before he'd tumbled too far, he maneuvered himself toward the wall. He pushed off from it, propelling himself toward a house. He managed to drive his blades in the roof. The weak tiles from the old house couldn't hold his weight, and he slid down to the edge, his blade tearing a line along the roof in the process. To his dismay, it was a rather large house, so his landing on a pile of empty barrels was more painful than he'd imagined. His wounds the titans had given him earlier didn't make things any easier.

The captain lay on the pile of splintered wood, muttering incomprehensibly. Frightened voices came from inside the house. Levi didn't imagine the owners would be too happy with him for renovating their ceiling. He heard the groan of the heavy door opening, as well as the whispers of the slowly growing crowd. Levi let out a sigh. People from small towns always flocked over the most unnecessary things. Couldn't the brats just leave him alone?

A man's voice cried, "Good heavens, it's a scout! Honey, get out here!" At his request, the quick-paced footsteps of the man's wife sounded inside the house.

Levi rolled his eyes. If he'd had the strength to stand, he would have left already. He didn't want people to make a big deal out of him like they did with anything involving the scouts. All he wanted was for someone to bandage his wounds and lead him back to the Scouting Legion. Was that too much to ask?

His fatigue from his restless journey and lack of sleep weighed on him like a ton of bricks. Blood painted his forehead, the result of a branch smacking him when the titan had ripped his cord out of another titan. Numerable other places leaked the sticky red substance. His body ached all over, now with new intensity since his adrenaline had worn off. Worst of all, the wretched feeling of uncleanliness covered him.

The faint image of a man looming over him, Levi heard a blurred voice instructing a child to get a doctor. Under normal circumstances, he would have toughed it out and stayed awake. But this was far from normal. Without realizing, the captain slid out of consciousness on the shards of broken barrels.

When he awoke, he had been moved to a bed inside a stranger's house. A woman with black hair stood by a wash basin while she rinsed dirty rags. Near a desk, a man wearing glasses sat on a wooden chair.

The black-haired captain began to sit up. The man quickly stopped him, suggesting, "You might want to rest more, sir. From what I understand, you had quite the fall."

   "I'm alive, aren't I? I think I can handle sitting up."

The brown-haired civilian laughed in a good-natured way. That wasn't the usual response Levi got from a comment like that, so he decided to mind his manners a bit more.

Standing, the man in the glasses strolled closer to the scout. "I'm Doctor Jaeger," he said. "The woman over there is my wife, Carla. Might I ask your name?"

"Levi Ackerman, I'm with the Scouting Legion."

"Ackerman, huh?" The doctor held his chin. "I know some Ackermans not far from here. I don't suppose you're related?"

    "Probably not."

"Ah, just as well. Would you like anything?"

Levi shook his head, taking a brief glance around the house. It was a quaint place. A little dark in his opinion, but he couldn't exactly expect it to be filled with light in a crowded town like Shiganshina.
