Maya looked shocked. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out.
"You happy now?" I ask her shoving the picture back into my nightstand drawer. I looked back over to Maya and before I could stop her, she had her arms wrapped around my chest.
"I'm so so sorry. You didn't have to tell me that." Maya said almost at a hushed whisper. I stand there awkwardly with my arms up. I didn't want her sympathy and I definitely didn't want her tear stains on my chest.
"Yeah well." I say. I look down at her and she seems to hug me tighter. Almost to the point where it hurts to exhale. Dang, this chick is stronger than she looks.
"Well if your willing to share your sob story, why can't I?" Maya asked.
What's that supposed to mean?
"When I was born, my dad left my mom and I. For years I thought that it was my moms fault until I realized it wasn't. It wasn't her fault at all. It was mine. All of it, why my mom can't hold a job and why my real dad left. Remember when we broke into the school and that man came to pick me up? That's Dalton, my moms boyfriend. He agreed to let us stay there with him." Maya shared her story with me with tears anxiously waiting to run from her eyes.
"Maya-" I began but she cuts me off.
"No, I need to at least tell someone this. I never liked Dalton, he seemed to be young and old at the same time. If that makes any sense," it didn't but I let her continue, "he is maybe a year older than my mom so he's still in his thirties. He just seemed too perfect. Has a good job that he enjoys and gets paid a lot of money. He was always in a good mood. He cared for everyone. Heck, he had perfectly straight teeth and he hasn't even had braces." Maya says causing me to let out a soft chuckle.
"I'm just scared he will leave my mom like my dad and it will be all my fault. It's always been just her and I and I just don't wanna go through that struggling again." Maya says with tears racing down her cheeks. I casually brush a tear away from her cheek.
"Maya I don't know much about your family, but I know why your dad left isn't because of you." I say to her. I don't know why I wanted to comfort her so much, just seeing her crying twisted my gut. Maybe I'm so concerned because she so concerned for me. Damn it I hate emotions.
Maya looked up at me and gave me a small smile. She nodded and began to wipe her tears. I cleared my throat recognizing the tense moment. Maya gets up and fixes her shirt. She slowly walks to the door of my room. She stops and looks back. She once again gave me a weak smile and left.
I flopped down on my bed and let out a big breath.
"Well that was dramatic."

"YOU PLAYED HOOKIE?!" Riley yelled at me. I sat in the chair in Riley's room with my hands in my lap and my back arched.
"No?" I say. Riley rolls her eyes while Tina is just standing there on her phone. Tina had a huge grin on her face that caught me attention.
"Tina? Who you talking to?" I ask her changing the subject. Tina's face went blank real quick. A smirk plastered on my face made Riley suddenly interested in who Tina was talking to also.
"Ummm...I'm talking t- you see it's...." Tina took off out of Riley's room and down the hall. Riley and I look at each other and take off after her.
