"Miss McEnroe," McGonagall looked to me. "How did this all happen?"
I wanted to tell her. I wanted to tell her everything. But I remembered what Phil had said, that I couldn't say anything about the whole Noah thing. So I said nothing, looking to my hands.
"I heard that Noah had something to do with this," she said, looking towards me. I reached up and gently traced my fingertips across my bruised and split open cheek. I remembered how it happened.
I was out by the lake, watching waves lap over each other, creating beautiful sounds. I had been there a while. My stomach was growing due to having skipped both lunch and dinner. I was humming slightly, wondering what time it was. I had a way to find out, I was just wondering if it would actually work. Slowly, I pulled out my sun dial. I wasn't sure it would work because the moon was out, not the sun. I set it down in front of me and looked at it. The shadow fell upon a little after midnight. Oops. Cohen was probably worried.
I had picked up the sun dial and put it back in my pocket before standing. That's when I heard it. A twig snap. I saw a shadow in the corner of my eye and sucked in a deep breath, turning towards it. Noah stood there, looking sinister in the moonlight. "You..." I glared towards him. "You shouldn't be here. There's nobody else here to hold me back." I warned him.
Noah shocked me by bursting into laughter, walking closer to me. I tried to back up but ended up bumping into a tree. "It's funny that you think you can fight-" I cut him off by socking him in the nose. "FUCK!" He shouted, holding his nose. He glared over to me. "You just made a very bad decision." He pulled something long and white out of his pocket, it took me a minute to realize it was a sock. He picked a heavy rock up from the ground and put it in the sock.
I dove towards him, tackling him at the knees. Once I had him pinned I rolled him on his stomach and grabbed his wrist, twisting it and forcing it in between his shoulder blades until I heard a satisfying pop. That's when things started to go bad. Somehow with his dislocated shoulder, Noah threw me off him, sending me flying into a tree. It took me a moment to regain my senses and he took the same moment to stand and walk towards me. He swung the sock in a circle before bringing it down on me, slashing open my face. I cried out in pain. Noah kept glaring down at me before bringing his heel down on my forehead.
Dark spots danced in front of my vision as it doubled. The dark spots got larger, and larger until everything went black.
"Miss McEnroe!" McGonagall's voice brought me back to reality. "Did Noah have a part in this or not?" She demanded. I bit my lip.
"He did. But I had it coming, ma'am. I was giving him crap about my having liked my sister last year. I was...I was...." My voice cracked as I choked back a sob.
That's when Patil, Phil, Dan, and Penny ran in. "Headmaster! Students are missing!"
McGonagall quickly stood. "What are the names?"
"Rebecca Founds-first year, James Rangel-second year, John Opal-third year, Mary Sue-fourth year, Cohen McEnroe-fifth year, Tyler Fans-sixth year, Josh Joseph-seventh year" Patil read from a list of names. That's when the room started spinning. I stumbled out of the chair I was sitting in to talk to McGonagall. Cohen was missing...? My twin brother....gone?
I couldn't see straight. I felt myself fall to my knees. I heard Phil calling my name and trying to help but he might as well have been a million miles away. I wrapped my arms around myself, sobbing. I'm pretty sure I was dry heaving too. I couldn't think straight, much less identify what I was doing...
PHIL
I held Domino's trembling body close, stroking her hair softly as she sobbed. I shakily got her to her feet and led her back to the cot she was laying on before and grabbed a Kleenex, wiping the vomit from the sides of her mouth. McGonagall had left with Patil, so Domino couldn't really get any help.
I rested her head in my lap, stroking her hair as she sobbed harder, clinging to my pant leg. Penny looked to Dan who was glaring at me, obviously not happy about our last conversation. "Not now" I told him, glaring right back. Penny walked over and sat at the foot of the bed, patting Domino's leg quietly.
Dan sighed and sat in the chair McGonagall was when we had walked in. Penny looked over to him and sighed. "You don't think this was him, right?" She asked quietly. I looked to Dan but he apparently decided he wasn't looking at me at the moment.
I sighed, still stroking Domino's hair, her sobs were on the verge of turning into hyperventilation. I sat her up and cupped her face with my hands. "Domi...Domi look at me" I told her. Her eyes flickered up to meet mine. They were a bright blue, like the color of the sky on a cloudless day. "I need you to breathe for me, okay? I know you're scared but it's gonna be okay, okay?" I told her quietly.
Dan scoffed loudly. "Really Phillip?!" He demanded. "Do you not care about the fate of this group anymore? Do you not care if Cohen gets mad you like his sister?" He shouted. I blinked. What was happening? Domino tensed in my arms at the sound of her brother's name.
"Dan," Penny said quietly. "He's just trying to help..."
"At what price though?" Dan demanded. "At wasting a friendship?"
"Dan, I'm sure Cohen won't mind..." Domino spoke up, staring at him. "This is Cohen we're talking about...."
"Shut up, Domino! He's missing, anyways!" He quickly stood, making us all jump slightly. "And for some reason, I have a feeling we won't see him again anyways!" He said, storming out.
