I don't talk to him for the next week. I avoid him if I can but it's extremely hard when we're locked in the same room. The first day I kept him locked in the chain and didn't open him but the other days I did because I felt sorry for him.
Max shouldn't have kissed me though. That was wrong and I am partially at fault for kissing him back. Maybe that's why I'm angry.
When a man appears at the door, one I haven't seen before, I panic. He's bigger and more bulkier than the other ones and it's like my heart stops when he stands right in front of me.
He stares me down. "Call your family, tell them your fine then call your damn friend Violet and let her know everything is okay. She's been calling you too many times."
I grab the phone and call my family. Mum is sick and I feel bad that I'm here but I don't really have much family.
What I dread is calling Violet. She'll be able to tell I'm lying which means I have to do an extra good job at convincing her. I hate lying to her but with a gun held to my head, I have no other choice.
I look over quickly to notice Max watching me. It's like he wants to hear Violets voice or even perhaps his brother's voice. I've been harsh on him this week. We're already in this hell hole, I shouldn't have to make it worse.
I press the speaker button when I dial her phone.
"Hey, B."
"Hey, Vi," I reply. "How are you?"
"How am I? B, I've been calling like crazy. Way to ditch a friend," Violet says.
I laugh but when I look over to Max I can see his wet eyes. He isn't crying but I know he's close.
"Is Sam around?" I ask.
"Yea he is," Violet says. "I hope it's not to flirt."
"I promise but put him on the phone."
"Hey Bianca," Sam says.
My throat catches because I can sense Max's pain. It's almost like a void in me.
I turn to watch the tears pour down his face. Max doesn't make a single noise, he just cries in silent.
"Hey Sam. I hope you guys are fine."
"Absolutely," he replies.
The guy presses the tip of the gun harder into my forehead, signalling me to end the call soon.
"Great. I'm staying at mum's and I might not get reception so I called to check up. I have to head back so I got to go."
"Okay, take care," Sam says before I hang up.
The guy snatches my phone and leaves the room.
I wait a minute to make sure he's really gone before I go over to Max. I run my hand across his cheek and wipe his tears. "I'm sorry," I say.
He looks up at me and smiles. "Thank you."
"Huh," I say looking confused.
"I know you put the phone on speaker so I could hear and I know you asked for Sam for my sake."
I pull him in a hug and he tries to return it but the clinking of the metal reminds him, he's locked up.
I pull the key out of his pocket and open the chains. He pulls me in a hug. "Two years," he says. "Two years since I've heard their voice."
"I know," I say.
We hold each other somehow drawing energy from one another. I shake my head at the thoughts that come to mind. He's shirtless and incredibly sexy, and we're locked here and kidnapped yet I can't stop the thoughts I'm having.
My clothes are all ripped and so are his. The cut across my stomach is still fresh, it hasn't scabbed over.
I quickly kiss him. So quick that he doesn't have time to react and then I sit down. He watches me as if to make sure that the kiss was real and by the confusion on his face, I can tell his contemplating if it was real or if he dreamt it.
He sits beside me. "Ignored me for a week only to kiss me again, huh?"
"I know I shouldn't have ignored you."
He smiles.
That's when we the shouting downstairs. There's gun noises going off and part of me is expecting someone to walk through the door any second and put a bullet through my heart.
My face loses all colour because Max pulls me into a hug. "It's okay," he whispers.
My fingers go numb when I hear the shouting. There's probably over twenty men downstairs. What they're arguing over, I have no idea.
"You're going to have to lock me up," Max whispers beside me as if he knows someone is going to come up. "Something is going to happen," he says running his hand through my hair before kissing me lightly.
I swallow. Fear begins to creep in.
"Don't let them break you," he says. "I think one of us is going to die."
I watch him say that like no difference. Like he doesn't care if he dies. 'Don't let them break you' he said, as if he knew that I'd be the one surviving.
He leans in. "Lock me up now."
I nod as I grab the lock off the ground and chain him up.
The shouting gets louder. I can hear the sound of boots running up the stairs.
Three...two...one.
