                                      Chapter Ten: Shark Teeth

I pull my lips away from James. Kissing James feels as right, as murdering the one you loathe the most. I just want to kiss him, kiss him until I can’t any more, his lips against mine, and my body against his.

“James, this isn’t right.” I glance away, because murder isn’t okay.

“What isn’t right?” He tries to make eye contact but I continue to concentrate on my bracelet that he bought me.

“The fact that you know more about me than I do you. Honestly, this is a mere hook up. I am easy.” I mumble the words. How could I give in so easily? Trust is not something you just give to a person you barley meet.

“Slut is such a gruesome word.” James frowns. “It should never be used against a lady.” He shakes his head in disagreement. “Nevertheless be in the mouth of one.” He adds.

“Sexiest much?” I ask. I don’t know what world he’s come from but this generation is different. Women are allowed to use any word they please.

“No, it shouldn’t be in the mouth of a man either. No one should show such disrespect.” James concludes his statement.

“Just tell me who you really are.” I ask of him. His bright blue eyes dim. He shakes his head, disappointment fills me.

“Why? Don’t you trust me?” My bottom lip trembles as I feel the anger at the thought of him not reciprocally trusting me.

“Believe me when I say it’s not about you. I just cannot.” James begins but I forcibly separate myself from his arms.

“So it’s okay for you to watch me while I sleep. Come into my school; declare some type of love for me but it’s not okay to tell me about you.” I cross my arms, doing so involuntarily makes my right feet tap against the floor quickly.

“Don’t you trust me?” James questions me with my words.

“I shouldn’t.” I continue, a bit intimidated by this discussion. I don’t trust many people, not this quickly either.

“Jane, I cannot discuss this right now. I’m sorry.” James begins to head for the window; apparently he doesn’t like using doors.

“No, you’re not sorry.” I grab his wrist frustrated. I want answers.

I watch through dark bushes as I spot myself walking like a one year old into the moonlight that lies over the driveway. Then speedy enters the scene, walks to me, helps me up, places me into his car. He walks around the front of the car suddenly stops. He directly stares at me, frowning. Then I’m running.

I pull my hand away from James. Terrified and disordered, I can no longer focus. I begin to take steps backwards away from James. He was there, the night of the crash. He was there, he ran. He just ran. James could have stopped it all. James could have been the reason, I refute myself.

“Jane it’s not what it seems.” James comes towards me slowly.

“You were there. You were running. The car, the car was hit, you, you must’ve push the car.” I infer in incomplete sentences.

“Jane I didn’t push the car.” James slowly extends his arms towards me. My senses tell me that he’s more frightened of me then I am of him.

“You did…you were watching me…you did.” I think out loud. My ears pick up a familiar grumble of a car.

“No, grab my hand I’ll show you.” He suddenly extends his whole arm making me flinch. I can feel this unpleasant twist in my stomach. The words of my father make it even harder to concentrate on this undesirable world. Leaning away from James I stumble onto the wall.

“Jane, trust me. Touch my hand.” James continues to close the space between us, he’s pleading. Why is he just pleading?

“Jane!” Speedy’s voice comes from downstairs. By the sound of his voice I can hear that he senses something strange. I’m foreshadowing distress, and somehow without music they play in music Speedy feels it.

I can’t speak, my tongue feels too heavy. Still James doesn’t leave. He gazes at me still visibly distracted. My heart beat begins to beat painfully against my chest cage as his blue eyes begin to draw my attention back into this trusting bond I share with him. “Jane, please.” James pleads with sorrow eyes. His eyebrows are pulled together, He’s obviously wounded. I can smell his fresh scent as he continues to hold his hand out. I don’t take it. I don’t move, if possible my lungs as well. I can’t do anything but stare at his perfect face.

“Get away from her!” Speedy’s voice clearly distinguishes his anger. He storms into the room not even second guessing himself.

“Jane, please.” James pleads one more time, ignoring Speedy’s command. Speedy’s nostrils flare. He’s an animal, a lion fighting for his territory and  aggressively alarming. James also fixes his posture by hunching forward. He’s a cave man, who’s an expert at intimidation. He’s ready to fight, “I wasn’t hurting her.” James voice comes out harsh and sharp.

“Jane, did he touch you?” Speedy yells at me. All I can do is shake my head in disagreement. My body frozen by paths I didn’t know existed. This path Speedy’s car twisted down has lead me here.

“Look I don’t want to hurt you.” James surrenders, he expresses that his hands aren’t locked into fist.

“Doubt it.” Speedy defensively sneers at James.

“Well don’t.” James replies a bit cocky, showing not even an ounce of fear.

“Well you need to leave.” Speedy abruptly takes a step towards me.

“I’m not leaving until Jane tells me too.” James hisses.

“Then she’s coming with me.” Speedy yanks me from my arm. His hard grip causes me to wince. He begins to pull me against my will. I feel my shoulder sting as Speedy pulls at my arm, it might be dislocated. I yelp as he grips me tighter. Another hand grips my arm. I spot James angry face expression. His eyes are the color of the night sky, and the color of his skin seems to be shades whiter.

“Don’t you ever touch her like that again.” James growls, the right side of his top lip twitches.

“Touch.” Speedy takes the time to pronounce the whole word, acting immaturely obnoxious.  James growls while his mouth opens displaying his new teeth. James displays shark teeth, rigid and in various forms.

“Run!” Speedy yells. I refuse to go anywhere.

“Is that what you were trying to hide?” I ask trying my best to stay stationed as Speedy tugs on me. I speak quickly knowing Speedy can and will yank me away.

“Jane!” Speedy screams, but I continue to ignore him. I fight against Speedy, leaning all my weight towards James. It’s like a tug a war game, but with my arm instead of a rope.

“I.I…” James stutters, backing towards the window. Speedy, quickly wraps my waist with his arms picking me up into the air.

“James?” I yell at him as I clamp onto the sides of the door way. Hearing the window slide open and shut closed, I release the sides of the door finally giving up. Speedy slams onto the ground, a reaction to my sudden loss of grip. He breaks my landing as I fall onto him. Still processing everything I push off of Speedy, not sure what to feel.  My shoulders feel pain but so does my chest, or is it my heart?
