Chapter Thirty Eight: In Peace and With Love

My ears pick up the sound of a pounding door. I open my eyes. James is standing, changing quickly. I jump to my feet and do the same thing. What’s going on?

“You should stay here.” James says.

“Why, What’s happening James?” I question him, he doesn’t reply.

“They’re here!” Someone yells from outside the house.

James begins to march downstairs. I follow him, trying to stay at his pace. Jessie seems frightened but she stands next to us, ready for anything. James opens the door to an angry crowd my father in front of them.

“You brought them here, didn’t you?” My father interrogates James.

“No.” James replies with his jaw clenched tight.

“Tell them to attack.” My father yells to the crowd, I automatically know what’s going on.

“Wait!” I scream.

“They mean no harm!” I scream again as the crowd begins to make their way to the main road.

“Stop.” My father demands. The crowd turns to face him then they face me.

“Let me talk to them please.” I plea.

“No, it’s too dangerous.” James pulls me closer to him.

“James is right.” My father motions his hand, the crowd begins to move again.

“I said wait!” I shout as my hands fling forward. A blue mist forms a wall to the main road. They can’t get threw it.

“You’re putting us all in danger!” One person yells.

“No I’m not, let me go first.” I push my way out of James’ arms.

“Jane.” James call for me, I don’t listen.

“Please let me go first.” I stare at my father’s eyes with confidence.

“Are you sure?” My father questions me.

“Yes, I am sure.” I respond. I take a glance back at James-he’s angry at me.

“Okay, let her lead!” He yells at the crowd.

I lead the crowd to the front gates threw the cold air of the morning breeze. I tell them to stay station. I want to go in alone first. As I begin to open the gate, hands stop me. James. I glare at him.

“You can’t stop me from doing this.” I state firmly.

“I know that’s why we are doing this together.” James replies unlocking the gate and pushing it open.

“Wow.” Is all I can say. My feet travel over the cement ground.

Hundreds of people are crowded five feet away; the crowd is so huge that some are far back on the road. They all wear black. They are all grown adults. The crowd begins to talk. James raises his hand to silence them. They are automatically mute. The first roles of people bend their heads down, to face the ground; Then the next row and then the other row, then the row after that. The all begin to bow, they accept James as their leader.

“Brothers and sisters, you have put yourselves in the devil’s water today. You must not frighten the gifted like you have done. It will kill any chance at unity, and that is not what we want.” James shouts, he stands tall making his chest bold.
