The morning after meeting Zay, I felt hands brush through my hair, making me alert. When I sat up, I notice my mom sitting at the edge of my bed, blushing and staring at her lap. I was immediately worried and sat up straight.
"Is everything okay?" I asked. She was wearing a nice stripped sweater, skinny jeans, knee- high heeled boots, her hair curled and a decent amount of makeup on. Before we moved here, she dyed her hair red blond, she really wanted a new start.
Mom immediately shook her head no then smiled bashfully, "I am going on a date in an hour..." Katy smiled again to herself. I was a bit shocked, she never tried to date after my dad left us.
"Who is he?" I asked, smiling to myself. Maybe this is what she needed, a guy to keep her company. I wouldn't be here much longer anyways. I am graduating next year.
"It's Mr. Hunter, the man I work for. He asked me out for dinner and I could not exactly refuse. First off he is my boss and second he is very handsome yet kind, which is hard to find in a man now. In a way he reminds me of you." Katy kept rambling on until I hugged her.
"Mom, its fine. You need this. I can't remember the last time you went out with anyone and maybe this is exactly what you need." Katy looked up at me, her eyes looking much like a begging puppy.
"So your not upset with me?" Katy asked quietly. I shook me head immediately. Katy jumped up from my bed then just about skipped out of my room, throwing a kiss over her shoulder to me.
I smiled to myself as I got up to change. Tomorrow was Lucas and I's third month anniversary so we were going to take the day off of school. Today, I planned for all of us to go to museums, eat corn dogs, and maybe have a picnic depending on when Josh was suppose to arrive. Riley's uncle Josh was coming over for a week to visit Riley and see how she was doing. I shook my head, smiling to myself. How did I ever like him? I mean he is great and all, but he is no Lucas.
I put on one of my favorite outfits, a black dress with a white collar and my favorite knee-high combat boots. I left my hair down and only brushed it while I left my face clean of makeup, besides mascara.
I heard a knock then I ran to the door and opened it. Farkle and Riley were there hand in hand, Farkle with a dead look on his face and Riley beaming with happiness. Farkle scared me a bit when he looked like this... Riley ran up to me and hugged me, squeezing all the air out of my lungs.
"I am so excited for Josh to visit today!" Riley exclaimed happily. Farkle stared at me sadly, which I tried my best to ignore.
"I know you are Riley." I laughed with her then led the downstairs, now we only had to wait for Lucas. When I got settled on the living room floor, I found it to be comfiest there, Riley and Farkle sat on the couch, Riley almost sitting on his lap, which I knew made him uncomfortable.
Maya's Living Room
"Hey, Maya, do we have to go out today? I would rather just sit in today." I frowned to myself the quickly cleared my expression then smiled at Riley and nodded. A quick knock on the front door made me jump, I ran to the door. As soon as I saw Lucas's face, I could not help but smile. When he saw me, he smiled too. He picked me up and spun me around, hugging me close to him.
"You look beautiful, Maya." Lucas whispered in my ear, goosebumps ran up and down my arms. I blushed then kissed his cheek.
After about an hour of talking, Lucas and I went upstairs to my room to watch a movie together. In the middle of our second movie, Sherlock Holmes, I heard a knock on my door. Josh's head poked through the door. When he caught sight of Lucas and I, his eyes narrowed slightly but then he broke out into a smile. As tradition calls, I jumped up from under Lucas's arms and hugged Josh around his waist. Surprisingly, Josh hugged me back then kissed the top of my head. I casually danced out of his arms, laughing it off. A tense Lucas hugged me from behind then stuck out a hand to Josh. Josh glanced at his hand as if disgusted then grabbed it a bit to hard, shaking hands tensely. Lucas kissed my neck, making me shiver involuntarily; Josh to became frigid... What was that all about? Last time I checked, I was too young for him. Whatever, it did not matter. I took Lucas's hand then led him to the TV again to finish the movie. I smiled at Josh the patted seat on the other side of me.
As Josh drew closer to me, Lucas wrapped his arm around me then started flexing his biceps... This was getting annoying.
