She ran for her life, literally. Clutching onto her father's hand like it was the only thing that was keeping her feet on the earth. She hissed in agony, as rocks and glass poked and stabbed her feet through her slippers, leaving droplets of blood scattered across the road. Her night gown hung tightly around her shoulders, creating a slight warmth to this cold, dark night.
She hesitantly looks back at the things chasing her.
"No Alexandria. Don't look back. We have to keep running," her dad urges, tugging harder on her hand. But she can't run anymore. She's too tired. Tears roll down her cheeks as she tries to push her young legs to move faster. But it's no use. They just won't listen.
"Daddy! I can't!" she cries.
Her dad lifts her up and holds her in his arms, running as fast as he can with the extra weight. They run into the trees and her dad places her down with a finger to his lips.
"Be quiet and stay here. Don't come out under any circumstance," he demands.
She whimpers but stays quiet as her father runs back out to face the rabid girl. She jumps on him and bites into his neck.
Alexandria covers her mouth with her tiny hands, smothering the cry that's fighting to escape her shivering lips. She turns away quickly. She doesn't want to see her daddy die.
She waits there in her hiding spot just metres from where her dad lays dead. She waits and waits and waits, only holding onto the hope that maybe, just maybe, her dad will come back and tell her it's time to go.
