Over the next week, Kyle recovers pretty quickly. The antibiotics Dad comes back with helped a lot and the infection recedes in a few days. He still walks with a slight limp and he'll have a scar forever, but Jess stitched it up pretty well with what we had and he's pretty much back to normal.
This morning, while we were eating breakfast, dad brought up the issue of food.
" We'll need to go for more soon". He says as we are finishing up the last can of fruit cocktail. "we need to find a good source for things we can carry. The Walmart I got the antibiotics from was pretty trashed and empty, but there must be somewhere else."
"There is a little gas station convenience store I passed about an hour's walk from here." says Kyle passing me all the cherries from his can of fruit. " it looked pretty untouched to me."
