-Chapter 3-

Ashley sat up against the wall of a horse stable on Earth holding a beer bottle and staring blindly into the beating sun. The light gave him a huge migraine, but with his suicidal feelings at the moment, he didn’t really care. He took another swig of the beer. His vision was blurry and as a girl walked up to him, he tried to look at her, “Get up….” Was all that she said.

Ashley refused, “Why should I take orders from you?”

“Ashley….” She whispered, “Listen to your mistress and stand up.”

Feeling mesmerized by the voice, Ashley pushed himself up, leaning against the wall as sweat from the heat dripped down his brow. Dainty hands wrapped around his back and a small head was in front of the tall man and his stolid expression, “You look so scary,” She whispered, “Why don’t you relax just a little?”

Ashley obeyed, the power of her voice restrained him from taking any other action, “There’s a good boy,” she chuckled, kissing him across the lips.

In his drunkenness, he couldn’t help but kiss her back. The sweet succulence of her lips and the taste of cookies filling his mouth, it drew him in, “What I wouldn’t give to see Dakota watching us.”

The sound of Dakota’s name woke Ashley from his haze temporarily, the cloudiness of his vision vanished and he slapped the girl away. Cecilia gasped as she reached for him as his wings burst out and he fluttered off.

He fell asleep somewhere along the flight and crash landed in a forest somewhere. He wasn’t sure how long it was before he woke up, it seemed to be around the evening time but it was impossible to tell with the canopy of tree leaves. He still had a major headache that intensified as he swerved his head to look around. He had landed near a small lake.

Walking over to the water, he kneeled down and splashed the cool water on his face. He saw a face in the water, but it seemed to shimmer and fade away as soon as he looked at it. He turned and stared around at the beautiful scenery, looking at it sadly, as though it were a willow free forest, sobbing in depression at Ashley’s situation.

“Stop mocking me….” He growled, “STOP MOCKING ME!”

A purple fire lit up his eyes and he shot blue flames at a tree, igniting it with his rage. The burning tree spread and violet fire lit up the twilight sky. Ashley stared at it before sprinting off into the flames. He felt pain in his skin as the fire licked his arms and burned through his jeans, searing off his leg hair. His vest caught fire and he rolled under a falling tree and into a cave, watching the fire until it finally died down the next morning.

He heard fire fighters shouting at each other and waited for them to leave, and when they finally left Ashley was asleep once more. He awoke to footsteps at the foot of the cave and his hand lit up with heat once more, “Ashley?” He heard Dakota’s voice echo through the cave.

Ashley threw the flames on the ground and screamed. Dakota fluttered through the flames and hugged him as he sobbed. Dakota petted Ashley’s hair supportively as the grown man cried in his arms, “It’s okay, Ashley, let it out,” Dakota whispered.

Not knowing how long he stood there in Dakota’s arms crying and screaming and throwing a little tantrum, he finally fell limp in the arms of his friend while gasping for breath. Dakota slowly sat them down, laying Ashley on his lap and stroking his cheek, “Your eyeliner is ruined,” Dakota whispered, sounding choked up.

Ashley let out a melancholic chuckle, then he sighed, “What’s wrong?” He wondered hoarsely.

Dakota looked away darkly, “It-it’s nothing….”

“Don’t lie,” The two fallen angels had always been in sync, even in heaven. They knew how the other felt, not always knowing why.

“Why would you leave me?” Dakota whispered, a tear sliding down his cheek.

Ashley wasn’t sure how to reply as Dakota buried his face in Ashley’s chest and his body shook with silent sobs. Placing his hands on Dakota’s head, he sighed, the warmth of his breath relaxed him, “I’m sorry, Dakota,” He whispered.

Closing his eyes, he thought about what pain he may have put his friend through. He couldn’t even figure out what that must have felt like, “I’m sorry,” he murmured once more.

Dakota turned his body and relaxed against Ashley’s chest, still sobbing, but not as violently. Ashley stared at the roof of the cave, feeling Dakota’s body getting heavier, “Are you tired?” Ashley asked soothingly.

“Yeah… I haven’t gotten any sleep because I’ve been looking for you. I finally found you when I saw the violet forest fire. I flew down here as soon as I could, but the fire fighters were always in the way, so I had to wait for them to go away,” Dakota explained as his eyelids drooped.

“Go ahead and sleep,” Ashley requested, “I’ll stay here.”

“Alright,” Dakota murmured, falling asleep shortly after that.

Ashley left his hands in Dakota’s hair as he slept against Ashley’s ribcage. There was something soothing about the pressure Dakota was putting on his chest, which confused Ashley a little bit. Ashley let his thoughts fade away as he lay there, in the cave, with Dakota on his chest, not knowing what the next day would bring about, and the challenges he would have to face.
