Eating disorders - are mental disorders defined by abnormal eating habits that negatively affect a person's physical or mental health.

They include:

BINGE EATING DISORDER- where people eat a large amount in a short period of time.

CAUSES:

-psychosocial impact, biological.

ANOREXIA NERVOSA- where people eat very little and thus have a low body weight. A complex eating disorder with three key figures:

   -refusal to maintain a healthy body weight.

  -intense fear of gaining weight.

  - distorted body image.

SYMPTOMS:

-depression,loneliness, insecurity, pressure to be perfect, or feeling out of control. 


BULIMIA NERVOSA- where people eat a lot and then try to rid themselves of the food.

CAUSES:

-low self-esteem, reviews the "all r nothing" perfectionism, cultural and social pressure, disturbed relationship of satiety and hunger, negative emotions (stress, depression, other mental problems), eating, puberty, pressures and conflicts within the family.

SYMPTOMS:

-recurrent episodes of binge eating and cleaning, unrealistic fear of gaining weight, varying weight, craving for food, excessive use of laxatives, depression, gastrointestinal disturbances.


PICA- where people eat non-food items, rumination disorder where people regurgitate food, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder where people have a lack of interest in food, and a group of other specified feeding or eating disorders. people with this disorder eat inedible substances such as paint,clay, dirt, ice, sand, hairballs, animal feces, or agents starch machine. 


Anxiety disorders, depression, and substance abuse are common among people with eating disorders. These disorders do not include obesity.
